Hi All,

After so long wait, we finally got a letter today saying we have an interview on Nov 14th . We are excited but nervous at same time as we do not know what to expect at the interview, in the letter they have a check list like the medical ( if not already submitted) well,, its already been submitted more than a year ago, i don't know if that's ok or we need to do a new one. Also they are asking for all kind of documents that was sent to us from uscis and we sent to them like prior marriages, birth certificates, citizenships and all proof that we are married living together and proof of job and so on,, it is overwhelming . We still have some time to gather all evidences but need some advice.. please help! thank you.

Generally you want to show that you are co-mingling assets and that you live together.  The obvious things, whatever is applicable:  Both of you on the lease, matching drivers license addresses, both of you on the car insurance, both of you on the bank accounts, both of you on the credit cards, both of you on each other's health insurance, each one has the other listed as beneficiary on life insurance or retirement accounts, or other assets like that.

Other stuff that we brought:  We were on the same mobile phone plan, photo album that was sort of timelined (the dude actually went through it, we did some cool stuff)

It's not painful if it's straightforward.  Just bring what you have.

OH:  My recollection was that we had to go to the police station and pay $3 bucks for a police record.  Dunno why they asked for one, but it's worth bringing with you in case they want it.

My only advice along with what was posted above....make copies of all of your originals and bring the copies to the interview as well.  Some IOs will automatically take the original of what you are offering and not make a copy of it to give the original back to you (unless, of course, it's something they absolutely need the original of).   In some cases, if it's something you wish to hold on to, you can offer them the photocopy to keep in your file instead (photos, etc.)

It’s the easiest interview you will ever have.   Your interviewer will go through your I-485 form you submitted for clarity. Your interviewer will make you answer the whole yes/no questions in the “have you been convicted before?” section of the form.

You might be asked questions about your marriage to your partner - just chitchat easy/friendly questions. Then you will be asked to supply new evidence of a genuine marriage. It doesn’t go beyond that. You should be out of the interview room within 15-30 mins.

You have nothing to worry about. Just make the copies of what you are asked to bring. It’s a very easy process. Good luck!

this is by far the worst advice - the AOS interview is usually the toughest ! Expect to be questioned about everything, how you met, how soon you married etc .....The questions are in no way chit chat / friendly - they will try to intimidate you so be prepared.

you will need lots of docs to show you are in a genuine marriage - cohabitation, joint finances etc....

  • sending I130 05/16/2007
  • cheque is cashed on 06/11/2007
  • NOA1 in mail 06/13/2007 (who said 13 is badluck )
  • 07/30/2007 After no touches and no other signs we just got an email with the APPROVAL of I130....Thank God !....now what ?

  • 08/07/2007 Case received by NVC and case number assigned :))

  • 08/13/2007 DS3032 and AOS bill were generated

  • 08/14/2007 Emailed choice of agent ...i'm so curious when they will accept it...hopefully soon

  • 08/21/2007 DS3032 and AOS fee bill arive in mail

  • 08/27/2007 paid AOS fee bill
  • 8/28/2007 DS3032 choice of agent accepted
  • 9/3/2007 IV fee bill generated

Mine was somewhere in the middle, we had a K1 and K2 interview scheduled back to back, so 1.5 hours, we were separated for the interview, wife and stepson 50 minutes, I alone for 30. It was conversational not adversarial, but be prepared to describe your daily life, reiterate things from the K1 process etc, it was not easy but it was also not tough. If you have a genuine relationship and are confident you will do fine

you were lucky - I came with a CR1, married in Europe a year earlier , entered with GC, ROC with no interview then at N-400 interview 10 years later was grilled like you wouldn't believe - It caught me entirely by surprise since I have been a GC holder for almost 10 years with a bona fide marriage and all  ! it was absolutely crazy and the lady was so rude - for no reason whatsoever - at the end of the interview she was fine and smiled like nothing happened but still - I felt so humiliated I cried in the car on the way home... I am still upset about it a week later.

I am sorry you had it so difficult, it should be a joyous occasion, I am saddened when I hear stories like this, it should be a uniform process that is done at each location, and apparently isn't as I have heard many stories very similar to yours. Congratulations for passing this hurdle

Thanks again for you all.. i gathered up many docs to get prepared, all our wedding pics, utility bill, bank statement, he was added to my credit card and phone bill but his name does not show on the bill it just in the activity page, does that work? also i have so many pics from places we went in USA like our honey moon and vacations and so on, should i print those too? we also had IVF done ( trying to have a baby) i have doctor paper, should i take this also?

I bought my house before he came here and its paid off but we live in. so we don't have like rental or mortgage paper, does that affect anything?

What else should i get?

They asked for his medical saying ( if not submitted ) he submitted that in the airport when he first came in over a year

also they asked for the afidavid of support ( if not submitted ) we submitted that in his I485 form.  Are we ok on that or should we get that again?

Thanks all

Bring copies of documents sent with the application, we had 4 documents requested at the interview that had previously been provided, having them prevented an RFE

What documents they requested from you?

Our AOS interview was not like that at all.  We brought everything they asked for and most of the interview was getting the file updated.

Our approval email came that evening.
