I'm not happy with what USCIS is doing..all my dose of patience are about to go..RFE response received on Sept 13 and it's now the 25th of October still nothing..it's been almost 2 months..I terribly miss my fiancé and we would like to hear from them to know if another visit here will be good or will just be a waste because end of the process is near but now we don't know what to do.. -Faye

I just realized I didn't tell you about my experience getting the SSN in Salt Lake City this past Monday

It went really smoothly and it took less than half an hour. We were dreading a long wait since we hadn't made an appointment beforehand but was a walk in instead, but the waiting time until we were called to a window was in the range of the 5-10 minutes.

The lady processing my paperwork was actually quite new to the job, and mine was her first K1, so the supervisor was there with her all the time. They checked my visa/passport and SS5 and I also handed them my birth certificate and sworn translation to verify identity.

At the end of the process they handed me a letter with my record number to contact them if I don't get my card in the mail in 4 weeks maximum. They said because my POE was so recent, it might take a few days to verify the documents, but sure enough not the whole 4 weeks. I apologized for the short waiting time, but they said I was perfectly fine and the problem was when people waited till last minute to show up there for the SSN, since that can cause problems with the i94 expiring soon.

Anyway, I don't have to go back there, just wait for the mail to arrive, so that's good enough for me :D I'll let you know how long it ends up taking.

Thank you for sharing.. is that process described somewhere on visajourney?
And what does 'sworn translation' mean?

Just a quick update on some awesome developments with our case! Sam's medical is booked for the 1st of November, and his interview is booked for the 9th at 10am! I'm hoping this should leave enough time for the medical results to arrive. I just can't believe it's all finally happening!

He’s having his interview same day as me! lol. I’m having my medical on the 31st xx

Well much to amusement Rashmi is doing her medical the 3rd, picks it up on the 6th, and does her interview on you guessed it the 9th. So the humor of the number of people from this group all doing interview the same date is at least making me giggle a bit.

Sworn Translation is a notarized translation of the document. If the birth certificate isn't in english you need to have a translated copy.

Is there any other document that needs to be translated?

To prepare and do it here in mexico, it will be cheaper thanin the USA i think

I only got my birth certificate translated, because when I quickly checked the info on what I'll be needing for AOS I understood I wouldn't need the police clearance in my case... Don't remember exactly who might need that one, so maybe you want to double check the instructions (I think only certain countries need it).

I certified with the La Hague Apostille the original document and then ordered a sworn translation of the certified document. I'm just trying to play it as safe as possible here (just being me) :)

Possibly a silly question about POE - once you get to the airport, you just proceed as you normally would to customs/immigration, correct? I'm leaving from Canada so when I travel to the U.S. I do immigration in Canada before the flight - I assume it's the same for entering with K1 Visa? No special area you have to go to?

Yup you'll proceed through US Customs and hand over the paperwork to the officer. Depending on the airport there might be a special line for visas. I know Toronto has one, so just ask once you get past security. Goodluck!!
