Making America Gag Again

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/16/world/canada/refugees-in-canada.html?hpw&rref=world&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=well-region&region=bottom-well&WT.nav=bottom-well

WINNIPEG, Manitoba — There are many differences between the two Ghanaian refugees in Winnipeg, but the most significant comes down to a single thumb.

Razak Iyal and Seidu Mohammed became the public face of desperationamong refugees in the United States after President Trump’s election. A trucker found them half-frozen north of the Canadian border on Christmas Eve. They had walked — sometimes waist deep in snow — across farm fields to avoid being deported from the United States. Their fingers were so severely frostbitten that all of them had to be amputated — with the exception of Mr. Iyal’s right thumb.

That single digit means he can fry up his own breakfast, pull on his clothes and pinch the knob of the washing machine to do his laundry. “That thumb I have left helps me a lot,” said Mr. Iyal, 35, a former appliance store owner from Accra, Ghana. “I thank God for it.”

Both men won permission to stay permanently in Canada. But while they are rebuilding their lives, their story has become a focus of sympathy and criticism among advocates in Canada, who say their fate shows that the United States is not fair or safe for refugees.

Great story! I love that illegals are starting to have some respect for our laws. Hopefully many more self deport. Chances are there is less chance of frostbite along our southern border.

So those two came over here on a valid visa and then left to Canada when they saw how hard it actually is to stay here legally under the refugee banner. They then tried to go through farm land in waist deep snow to get to Canada because they don't know how Canada weather is in winter. Gosh, I am really glad that they are in Canada now and not in the USA, at least we won't have to pay for them because they obviously can't work good jobs now.

some folks don't see a difference.

And I think it is fascinating that the most anti people are the ones who are bringing over a wife/husband or fiance(e) who comes from a country where most people just want to get out of their country in any way to go find somewhere better.

But they are Illegals when they overstayed their valid visas. Did they even try to claim asylum in the USA before skipping to Canada?

I have observed that the people who criticize other immigrants the most are those who came to the US illegally and managed to work the system and get a green card. Once they accomplish that, they resent those who resemble their past. Too many marriage scams.

I have seen that as well even the ones who came here legally looks down on those who came here "fresh off the boat". Honestly my wife got that when she first got here from the Philippines from Filipinos who have been in the USA for decades. So we always try to be respectful of anyone who came here legally no matter their status or nationality, heck a couple of our good friends who we met through our kids are a Muslim Bengali family. When we had my son's bday party and invited them we are decent and considerate enough to have some vegetarian and even halal food there for them. So we are not against anyone who wants to come here legally.

since you can't tell by looking at a person if they're legal or not and asking out right is none of anyone's business, my general rule is to treat all people with basic respect and dignity.
