Considering the president is elected on a state by state basis, it seems that he DNC should have been paying more attention to those than nationwide polls.  Also, considering the negative effects of telling a pollster in a nationwide poll you might be supporting Trump, that to me makes these polls worthless since there is no way to tell if the person is being deceptive out of shame, or just telling a pollster what they want to hear.  I know when I get called for a political poll, I just make stuff up to play with them.

This is where Hillary's campaign went wrong, she was complacent in the Midwest. The Midwest had been blue for a long time and she thought campaigning there was a waste of time and resources. Trump kept on beating the Trade drum, NAFTA etc and it worked. That being said Trump probably won the election by the narrowest of margins of any president despite the electoral college score.

Anybody who knows anything about the midwest knew before these elections that things are changing. If Clinton's campaign missed it they all need to find a different job. Regarding the people were "ashamed", I don't buy it. Nobody knows you when they poll you so why would you be ashamed? We've discussed this before, some didn't want to admit because they were deliberately trying to deceive the media but I also think many genuinely did not know till the last moment who they would vote for and decided in the last minute to vote for Trump. I honestly think the "ashamed" are a minority out of all these and probably other options.

That is only if you take into account the popular vote which of course is meaningless in a presidential election.  I do agree that Hillary took the Midwest for granted to her detriment, but calling a bunch of people deplorable didn't help either.

I tend to agree with you.  I know when I went to the polls, I was only certain of one thing, I was not going to vote for Hillary.  Beyond that, it was still a toss up.

This part is true.  Many midwest democrats and, Bernie and  Bill Clinton were warning the campaign about the feelings of many white mid-westerners that would not go for Romney but would go for a populist message like Trump. The campaign invested in  Georgia and Arizona...gutsy but a bad decision in hindsight.

There were warnings signs when Bernie won those states during the primary.

Monday morning quarterbacking is always interesting in sports...but as we know the game does not come down to one penalty call, one snap, one missed tackle but when you loose by 3 points it is easy to focus one failure.

Hillary is not a charismatic leader in the same vein as Obama or her husband , I think she ran the best campaign she had in her from a speeches and public appearances

the stupid choice to have a private email server..although Gmail did not work so well for Podesta

Benghazi was a fact of life that led to the email investigation.  Trey Gowdy gets the props for stringing that one out for so many years.

Bill Clinton on the Tarmac...sheesh

The way the campaign was run with some of the choices

The hacking(s) and timely trickling out of stolen emails

Robert Mercer and his Money gun

Some men and women were not ready for a female president or had their doubts, although they will deny it to their grave.

Toward the end Trumps team was actually running the best possible campaign for their hand, in spite of their candidate

Trump is a liar and folks are not bothered by that, in fact they think it is being candid...I cannot figure that out

Bernie supporters really feeling shafted...hard to sort some of that out as not being just Millennial buthurtness versus a real lost opportunity

No, I wouldn't say, this election kind of reminds me of the UK election back in 1992 when labour were leading in the polls and the conservatives came up with a surprising victory. Studies shown afterwards that a lot of voters were ashamed to admit that they were going to vote conservative.

Same happened here, a lot of people didn't want to admit they were going to vote for Trump because they were ashamed. Polling for popular vote is very accurate but you're always going to have more error on a state by state basis. Polls were pretty much there popular wise but were way out in the Midwest.

a lot of people didn't want to admit they were not going to vote for Hillary because they were ashamed.

I am fine about the election results and I fail to see how responding to a question regarding it proves I am wound up.  Is that more armchair psychology?
