Hello guys,

I read in this threat that we have to make an appointment at our local USCIS center to get a stamp to have a one year extension (by the way, why don't they send an extension letter automatically if they know we have to wait more than one year? ^^).

How do I find out where is our local USCIS office? Is it the place where we did the finger print?

Good point mimikado :D. In my case it is the office where we had the interview to get the two year GC.

To get your stamp you need to book an infopass appointment. Sometimes that is the same location as the biometrics, but not always. Go to USCIS and you'll see a "Schedule an appointment" button. Click that and it will have you enter a zip code to find your closest field office.

Thank you for answering mrs thb. I have my appt at 10:00, so I think it's ok.

Mrs thb, when you had your passport renewed, did you include your spouse's last name on it? When I called to make my passport appt, the officer told me it was optional to have my spouse's name on it, but now I have my spouse's last name.

No, I kept the same last name.  I figure its too much of a hassle to get my name changed on all my documents.  While its an easier last name to spell and say it's just too much paperwork, etc.

It's really up to you and I was told by SIN and SSN that you can simply just start using your spouses name and its official but to get all my docs changed for me would be a nightmare.

Question. How to obtain a new stamp when you're overseas?

Green card expiring in September. There is no local Uscis offices here.

My first thought would be going to the US embassy, but when I went to the website it says:

"Appointments are ONLY available to: 1. REN - Pick up approved reentry permits that have been sent to USCIS Frankfurt Field Office for pick up. 2. 407 - To submit USCIS Form I-407. 3. TVL - You are a permanent resident of the United States who needs to obtain a transportation letter as your permanent resident card has been lost, stolen, or you travelled without it. See the Footnotes for more information. Please do not use these appointments to request information or other services"

Which I assume means they don't provide any ROC related services...? Anyone here tried to stamp their passports while overseas?

In your case you don't have anywhere else to go, right?  You need the stamp, right?  My guess is it is fine then to go, but I would wait til the 30 day mark.

I did read on VJ somewhere that someone was told they could just show up at their local field office which was extremely busy to book an infopass appt at for their stamp but only within that 30 day window.  USCIS understands the situation and are aware that some field offices just don't have the manpower to process to backlog therefore are making provisions for the stamp.

I would guess this would apply in your situation.

Well, I bit the bullet and filed my N-400 online tonight...any other July 2017 I-751 filers done theirs yet? My window for ROC technically opened at the end of May 2017 but we were out of country so held off until July to file. Staying put this summer though so decided to do the N-400 right away in hopes of putting USCIS behind me ASAP.  .

My N-400 filing eligibility opens up July 15th; I figure, if that is the end goal, why not get a start on it at the earliest available time? With processing times only going up (Looking at you I-751 CSC!), why not get a jump start on your naturalization?

I am still somewhat hesitant due to the taxation considerations, as I would be required to pay the IRS on my foreign earned income if my partner and I were to move to Canada. Suffice to say, it may pay dividends to be able to work on either side of the border at will. Heck, never having to deal with another USCIS process again may be worth it!

Best of luck on the filing. Please do report back if there are any tips or considerations when filing your N-400 online (or via paper)!

I am gonna file N-400 1st week of July when my window opens. Hope there'll be no more delays in that atleast. Been over 11 months since I filed I-751

I'm in a weird situation with my drivers license. My extension letter expires on the same date as my drivers license in September this year. How would I go about renewing my license,? Do I get the I 551 stamp to use that as proof of valid residence for the license renewal?

Yes.  Depending on your field office, where you'll make your info pass appt at, will determine how soon you should go.  Some field offices (not busy) usually give the stamp 3 months prior to, other's that are busy seem to be enforcing the 30 day rule.
