They came for John Cunningham on a sunny evening last week, showing up at his house in Brighton like early dinner guests.

They were federal immigration agents, and they were there to throw John Cunningham out of the country he has called home for 18 years.

John Cunningham, 38, has an electrical contracting business. He has paid taxes. He has done much to improve the lives of those around him.

But what he does not have is a green card, and so the federal agents brought him to the jail in South Bay and put him in a cell with the rest of the common criminals. Because in Donald Trump’s America, that’s what John Cunningham is, a common criminal.

In Donald Trump's America? The US has had similar laws for nearly all of its existence -- it's clear that since it's inception the US was never intended to be a country of open borders like the left wishes to revise history to. The fact that this guy had been in the US for two decades without going the legal route of acquiring residency status isn't the fault of Trump, and neither would it be Trump's fault if he gets deported as a result. If a person can't do something as simple as show respect for a country's laws and customs, they should stay where they came from. Playing this woes me "but they ruined a good man's life" card is nonsense.. the law is the law. Follow it or stay home.

Als die Nazis die Kommunisten holten,
habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Kommunist.

Als sie die Sozialdemokraten einsperrten,
habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Sozialdemokrat.

Als sie die Gewerkschafter holten,
habe ich nicht protestiert;
ich war ja kein Gewerkschafter.

Als sie die Juden holten,
habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Jude.

Als sie mich holten,
gab es keinen mehr,
der protestieren konnte.

Couldn't this guy have gone the Investor Visa route?  I am not a huge fan of that program, but it would have seemed to be possible although I am not sure how many people his business employs.

Regardless, you have to ask yourself something.  If John Cunningham had been on VJ asking how to overcome an overstay what kind of advice would he have received?

Exactly.

The thing is, I'm not opposed to the law changing, if that's what society wants(*), but we have a process of changing laws, and it doesn't include breaking the laws, and trying to victimize those who break them.

* = Immigration laws are, right now, merely laws.. they can easily be changed if Congress and the President want them to.. if it's in the national interest. If laws allow for more flexibility, so be it. However, when it comes to the left, they try and use local governments to try and usurp and bog down the authority of the federal government to determine immigration matters. It's clear they have absolutely no logic on this whatsoever, and essentially preach cultural invasion from foreign entities.

Agreed, there is a process to everything, and skirting the laws is not part of the process.  I understand that we all want to feel sorry for "the victim", and blame everything on Trump, but maybe it would be more productive and progressive to actually lobby Congress for a change to the law.  Really, this is no different than a new police chief laying down the law with respect to speed limit enforcement.

It's his own fault and deserves no sympathy. When so many are caught up in long waiting list what gives him the right to jump ahead?

He went on an Irish tv documentary about undocumented Irish immigrants that was aired a few weeks ago and talked about his fears of being picked up and deported, so he knew he was wrong.  Surely along with other participants of the documentary he had to know that the US authorities would be watching. He can't flaunt his illegal status on tv and expect to get away with it, one word gobsh**e

Also there was a warrant out for his arrest for larceny.

Well that just tugs at my heart strings. That poor, poor criminal.

- Illegal immigration, committing further crimes

- Left: Give that man a green card!

I feel for the guy just like I feel for any person here who is subject to possible deportation. But he is here Illegally and he has broken the law not once but twice. So he came up on their radar and he more than likely will get deported.

There is a case in my hometown in NC where a woman who came here Illegally over 28 years ago and brought her two daughters is being subject to deportation, she is hiding in a church now trying to fight it. The main newspaper in the state tried to give some half ### sob story about how she has four kids here and a USC husband, while speaking through a interpreter. I went online and called the newspaper out and asked several important questions that were not in the article just as: Why was she on ICE's radar to begin with, why couldn't her husband petition her since he's a USC, and how is she working with a deportation order out for her since 2001? So then literally a week later another newspaper did a article about her actually answered the unanswered question I had from the other news story. So went back to Guatemala and tried to come back on a fraudulent visa.

So this woman was given a gift and she ignored it?  Sorry, this is confusing, she left in 1999 and tried to return and was stopped.  Then in 2001 she was given a voluntary departure gift.  So how did she eventually get back in?

I thought she might be 9C but this happened too long ago, obviously married to a USA she could have gone I 601A route.

My local rag the Denver Post does similar sob stories and gets ridiculed in the comments section but still keep on doing it.

It's unfortunate how Colorado has changed.
