The real irony is that nobody in the thread is blaming the government or defending radical islam. In the wake of an event like this it is common for the authorities to perform an analysis, and try to determine if there were gaps in the process leading up to the attack. While everyone understands that the culprit part is the individual who detonated the bomb, there is also the need to revise what else could have been done by the authorities to prevent it.

 

Here is a simple way to look at it. Imagine the US embassy in Libya was attacked, during the time Hillary Clinton was Secy of State. Wouldn't you want to hold her responsible based on what she knew and when she knew it?  See how that helps put things in perspective?

BTW, I'm not blaming the government, but that government has done many things in the interest of cutting costs that have made the public less safe overall and utilize tactics that often do not work, and only think about the consequences once it's too late. As my husband said to me last night, why is it his and other governments are always so ineptly reactive instead of being smart and proactive? Our governments are constantly pushing the boundaries of surveillance in the supposed interests of keeping us all safe, they call on the public and those in the communities to ''see something, say something'', and when attacks happen we all go through a reactive phase of extra security measures. And yet when they receive information about individuals, when their own families and communities report their concerns (which is what they ask them to do)... 9 times out of 10 the person is always ''on the radar'', ''known but slipped through the cracks'', ''being watched'', ''didn't think they were serious''. Really? Heard about the Turkish nutcase that had to have a US flight escorted back to the airport because he tried to get in the cockpit? The guy managed to get flagged by the TSA once, had his boarding pass removed, was making threats, tried to get into a secure area, fit a profile and a pattern, and still managed to get back past all security checks and on the flight. When asked by the FBI if he was plotting something, he certainly implied he wasn't there for sightseeing.

 

Something that we're doing isn't working. And it's not always to do with immigration screening either, when the threats are coming and are going to keep coming from within their own citizens.

"We must secure our borders, we must investigate those who come here from the birthplace of this radical ideology and we must do whatever is necessary to prevent American blood from being shed on American soil."

 

Uhhh our president just made a deal with Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Wahhabism, aka this radical ideology....... Boycotting places like that would be a great start.

The funny thing is that at some level, even Trump understands that terrorism has nothing to do with Islam, otherwise he shouldn't have gone to Saudi Arabia. The MOR/MDRs are unable to separate demagoguery from reality - a possible side-effect of too much alternate facts - and in their zeal, they tend overdose on the fallacies they hear in the echo chamber.  The irony is that they are as radicalized in their cult of the so-called president, as the terrorists are in their cult of death.

Serious question. What do you suggest being done to stop the radical Islamic terrorists? Nuke all Muslim countries off the map? Round up all known Muslims in the US and execute them? Lock them up? Put them in internment camps? Ban the religion? What do you think can be done to stop the problem?

Ignoring the problem is not a solution, the so called Muslim ban was only going to be a delay on visa applications but it didn't take long for someone to run to a judge. Why would anyone not even want a basic extra level of security built in?

 

Not 100% but I'm not going back through every post but someone said it's not an immigration issue because the bomber was born in the UK. His parents were immigrants and after getting sorted in the UK they bought a house back in Libya and primarily stayed there so their kids had plenty of access to be converted. Also with UK citizenship they had freedom of travel back and forth. 

 

The Imam in his community said the bomber had become distant and was pro isis  and argued with the imam , no reports were made they kept it within their community. In another thread I said a lot of them choose to stay separate from our communities, they do not want to integrate.
