My wife and I just got back from St. Lucia traveling with an expired Green Card and Extension Letter (I-797 Receipt). We had no issues with CBP when re-entering the country and all officers were fully aware of the situation (expired GC + extension letter). If you're planning on traveling, here are some tips from us:

• When you arrive back into the country, ignore the kiosks and grab a US Customs form (U.S. spouse should use the kiosk) - We spent too much time trying to figure out how to get the kiosk to accept an expired GC.
• Enter the line to speak to an immigration officer (spouse with U.S. Citizenship can go with GC holder)
• You'll need to take a photo/give finger prints (standard stuff)

That's it. All we had to say to officers who approached us with questions was that we had an extension letter. They were quick to direct us to the right area. Everyone was super friendly, as well. This was Atlanta.

 

Hope this helps for anyone considering traveling.

I would like to add to JP & LMR's great advice.  If you are traveling to a country where the staff that checks you in for your flight to the US are not all that familiar with expired PR cards and extension letters, someone on this thread advises to take this "Carrier Information Guide" with you (electronically, perhaps) just in case:

Thanks for the advice! I've heard good comments too! My lawyer always tell me to go and she said nothing happens he always encouraged us to travel but second opinions are always good too ❤️❤️ I wanna book asap

I just got back last week. My greencard will expire in 2 days. I brought the letter with me anyways and asked the custom officer would the letter and expired card good in the future when I went through the custom. The officer's face had no expression when he said: "you won't have any issue since you have the letter". So, no worries.

I called USCIS yesterday to inquire about the address change that i had done online because i never got any confirmation letter for that in mailbox. They did confirm that the address was changed. They mentioned that my case is within the normal timing and currently USCIS is working on the cases from June 15, 2016. Good luck guys its a long journey.

Hi guys,

I visited the USCIS office and they didnt stamp the I 55 stamp saying that it is meant for folks whose cards expiry date is closer to an year or more. So am  going to risk travelling on the expired green card, NOA1, marriage cert and the CBP airlines carrier page 38 printout. Will update on how it goes. God has it all under control.

So, i have 2 concerns.

 

I did my biometrics in april, i recived my 1 year extension letter before that and everything, but first question is:

 

1: which receipt nr is my case status, the one that says application nr  or application nr 2?

2:i am only able to track nr 2, the first one says that the case nr doesn't exist, so it concerns me a lot, but nr 2 still says that the case was received and that i should be expecting my biometrics letter soon. I have already been to the biometric and recieved noa1, so why is it still stuck on that 4 months later?!?!?

Agree, don't think you have reason to worry.  Mine says the same.  I've read about so many cases where those online case status messages are  just not very reliable.

Okay, I can use some feedback from the participants in this thread, and specifically those who use the April 2017 i-751 tracking sheet in my signature.

 

Specifically, I just checked on the sheet and someone had renamed it "August 2017 n-400 filers". I have no idea why this change was made since the data relates to 4/2017 i-751 filers. Maybe it was a mistake.

 

I've changed the name back to its original name and made a backup copy to my local drive.

 

I want to keep this sheet public. Some participants have made good improvements to the formatting of the sheet. But with the public sharing means anyone can change the sheet, data, etc. There doesn't seem to be any partial editing privileges. Should I keep the sheet public? The new entries have sort of declined to a trickle in recent months. But I hate to make it private because if someone shares the good news that they got approved, then it would be great that everyone could share in that as they update the sheet.

 

Any ideas?

I agree, the sheet should be kept public. But last week when I was checking, CSC sheet didn't look right.  

Maybe, red bold notice on the top?  something like "please do not unnecessarily edit the sheet! " One more thing, there is not "RFE" column in the sheet.

Thanks for restoring the page. I logged on yesterday to have a look and was surprised to see it missing CSC along with the other obvious changes.
