Seattle sues Trump administration over ‘sanctuary cities’ order

This is to be expected, but I was curious about the comment the Seattle mayor made. 

 

"Seattle expects to receive more than $150 million in federal funds this year, including $2.6 million in grants from the Department of Justice.  Murray has said he is willing to lose “every penny” of that rather than alter how the city approaches immigration enforcement."

 

If he is willing to give up all federal grants and funding, then why is there a need for a lawsuit?

Here's my take.  For most citizens, federal funding is just a drop in the bucket, especially tourist areas.  NYC losing billions in funding really isn't that big of a deal, it could easily be made up elsewhere.

 

i honestly only believe that Miami is onboard because of wet foot/dry foot ending.  Even in Tampa where Marco Rubio owns an office it's considered sanctuary as is the surrounding areas like Clearwater and St Pete.

It's a matter of principle. Trump can't rule America in the same way his sponsor runs Russia. He needs to come to terms that he doesn't rule America. He is just 1/3 of the appointed powers.

This one has nothing at all to do with that. Trump, and the federal government are well within their rights here.

I agree, then why the lawsuit?  Is the Seattle mayor just trying to get work for so lawyers?  Besides, I think the Trump EO only applies to future funding, I think grants and funds already approved will still be there.

That remains to be seen. I am sure you stayed at a Holiday Inn last night, but I'm going to hold off until a Judge decides the merits of this case. The Seattle argument is that there are Federal laws prohibiting compliance with the Donald's new demands which may conflict with other laws that the Justice Department is pointing to. I know the Donald wants all Brown people gone by yesterday but the situation is actually rather complex.

What is an sanctuary  anyways?  Is every city that does not spend all of their public safety resources checking the legal status of every citizen a sanctuary city?

A sanctuary city is every city Trump couldn't win in.
