Got the email others did from USCIS. Probably the most unhelpful email I've opened in my life but perhaps implying there actually was no transfer to a local office? No idea.

We are still reviewing your case and there are no updates at this time

We will notify you when your case status changes. We last took action on your case on April 7, 2017.

Hubby booked an Infopass on March 8th

but wasn’t getting the confirmation. When he tried to book again, thinking the first one didn’t go through, it wouldn’t allow him sayng he already had an appt. So he called USCIS to see if they could see the appt and send him a confirmation, and of course they were helpless. The guy said he doesnt handle that which was puzzling  (????) Then the guy immediately tells him he’s making a Service Request for my husband! Hubby was a little shocked and just said okaaaayyyyy. So now we’re waiting to see what happens with that. I actually didn’t think you could file a SR unless you were ONPT. Our NOA is 3/30/17 VSC.  Hubby said the guy sounded like he had no clue what he was doing - even more so than the usuals LOL. In the meantime, the Infopass confirmation arrived in his email. It’s scheduled for 3/21.  It would be nice if we end up not needing it, but for now, we wait some more.  🤷🏻‍♀️

Does the passport stamp have to be done before the 1 year extension letter expires? The 1 year extension expires in less than two weeks and I haven't been able to get an appointment yet. My husband needs to travel sometime in May.

Hi there, you don't need the I-551 stamp unless you are traveling or need as a proof for a new job or renewing drivers license. You can get the I-551 stamp a week or 2 weeks before the expiration of your GC. The extension letter you got extends your GC expiration to one year.

Honestly, you DO need it.

Without a valid proof of status, you are OUT of status.

You need to be able to prove your status at all times, which is why you are required to carry your green card with you. But yes, practically, you would typically only need to present it to travel, get a job, or renew your driver's license.

Hi there, based on the law you are not out of status with a green card expiration if it is pending with USCIS. The I-551 stamp is a proof of your status and it is not compulsory to get it unless you need it for certain purpose as mentioned before, regards.

Will the service center give the stamp if you're past the 1 year extension letter? Green card expired 3/21/17 so with the 1 year extension letter that will expire 3/21/18. He has to travel internationally in May. I've heard conflicting info recently.

If his GC expires on March-21-18 then he definitely could get the I-551 stamp now or anytime this month or in future if his case is pending. Make sure you look for info pass appointment.

Any VSC March filers got approved recently? It seems like a lot of people got approved from June and July of 2017 (guessing they are just outliers). My NOA is 3/22
