Tens of thousands of residents in Northern California were ordered to immediately evacuate Sunday afternoon after erosion at the emergency spillway at Lake Oroville threatened to flood downstream towns.

The flood danger emerged suddenly when a hole developed Sunday in the auxiliary spillway that was being used to lower the levels of the full-to-the brim reservoir, the second-largest in California.

The erosion could undermine the concrete top of the spillway, allowing torrents of water to wash downhill into the Feather River and flood Oroville and other towns in Yuba, Sutter and Butte counties.

Sunday night, officials said the threat had diminished because the lake level had dropped and water was no longer washing over the emergency spillway.

This is what happens when you move money from critical infrastructure to other noncritical items such as: pensions, high speed brown doogle, and of course Illegal Immigrants.

Sounds like Trump will keep that all status quo.

Want better infrastructure? Well then we'll have to do what no other administration has wanted to do - raise taxes and actually use that money to pay for it.

During the campaign, both Trump made a promise to get to work on the infrastructure. The problem is not isolated to California, as the entire national infrastructure is outdated, and the only way to pay for it is with taxes, but that won't happen until the last standing bridge has collapsed.

Well the 'infrastructure' is pretty much only going to be the $21 billion border wall, which taxpayers will have their pockets drained for. Priorities ya know.

There was a report last week on Trump reaching out to one of his buddies and talking about the contract to build the wall. The guy said thanks, but no thanks. And also, the story has changed. The wall was going to extend the entire border, and now it will stop 1,000 miles short. In the end, Trump will present the nation with alternative facts that prove he build the wall that already exists.

Ummm, with all the Left against Trump, maybe you are blaming the wrong person for this disaster in the making.  California built, owns and operates this dam, but of course Gov. Brown would rather have a high speed train than spend money on something like this.  Heck, N. California is full of conservatives anyway.  Regardless, there were federal bureaucrats involved back when the dam's license renewal came up in 2005, but the California state agencies assured the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission there were no problems, and FERC re-licensed the dam.

Actually that's what California keeps doing is raising the taxes for "infrastructure spending" but then they route the money to the California Pension system which is in dire need. They have done this I know twice since I moved here 4 years ago. It seems to me that the state just keeps shooting itself in the foot because the more they raise taxes the more the middle class leaves California.

Actually I have heard an interview one of the local radio stations did with border patrol union leader and he said specifically that the wall would NOT be along the entire border. But it would be along certain parts of it, so that they could " funnel immigrants and drugs in other areas". Those other areas would be patrolled better because the wall would mean less agents on the wall part and more on the non-wall part.

Trains are another part of infrastructure which can be very important. But the lure of high-speed trains in favor of repairing or replacing other important things isn't confined to those run by Democratic governors. While I like our current Republican governor, I'm highly critical of his desire to bleed money not only to investigate the possibility of building a high speed train into DC, but the constant obsession to build one in favor of projects for critical infrastructure. I don't think you can find a state in this country that doesn't suffer from that problem - both in state and federal owned infrastructure. I don't think it's entirely on the state government to 'assure' the feds whether a dam is safe or not. FERC shouldn't be swayed if something is truly wrong with that dam (and if we review the history of it, it seems a lot has gone wrong over the years), but this seems to be the policy everywhere. Put things off until we reach crisis mode. Kick the can.

Isn't this dam build on a fault line anyway?

I didn't say that Republican governors cannot waste money with the best of the Dems, just that if the usual suspects are going to pin this particular issue on President Trump, they are looking in the wrong direction.  As to the dam on a fault line, I am not sure about that, but of course it is possible.  The state of California does not have the best track record when it comes to dam construction...do we all remember the St. Francis Dam collapse.

I need to dig deeper into the 2005 re-licensing issue, however, I imagine they do put considerable weight in the State of California's water resources department as they are the engineers and operators that run the dam.  However, I think they should have at least brought in the Army Corps of Engineers to look into the concerns of the environmental groups.

I am not a big fan of the high speed train concept.  I know, it is great in certain areas, but overall, pretty much a waste of money.

Yes, that was before he said the wall would extend the entire border. He simply presented alternative facts.
