Adjustment of Status (I-485) before applying for a SSN?

My fiancée entered the United States on a K-1 fiancé visa and we got married on 11-8-16. I've just finished all the forms for her adjustment of status and one of my friends just told me that she has to apply for a SSN first. I guess my question is would it be okay to apply for adjustment of status before she applies for a SSN number or is it mandatory to get the SSN first. Also do I have to fill out an I-130 with the adjustment of status?

Check the visa journey timelines for k1 visas. They have the exact order for filing as well as what forms youll need.

It's not mandatory to obtain an SSN first, but it is a really good idea and would make a lot of other things much easier.

There is no requirement to obtain a SSN prior to filing the AOS, however it is a good idea to get one as it may be needed for bank accounts, drivers licenses, etc. just make sure you apply for the SSN with two weeks or more validity left on her I94 from her K1 arrival.

I've arrived here on a K1 visa and Did not apply for an SSN right away. I just thought there isn't an urgent need. I'm in my husband's insurance w/o it. I'm attending school w/o it (they provided me a temporary one.) As for the DL, I believe unless you're a permanent resident, that's when you can apply for one. I just received my EAD, going to apply for my SSN soley to start finding work.
