I agree that you (and your wife so she knows what would happen in the event that something were to happen to you) should meet with a financial planner regarding estate planning, life insurance, possibly long term disability insurance, etc

Do not plan for her to skip town with your 401k and money before the creditors come calling. She would probably end up in jail. I know that's not something you want.

A few responses ...yes I have life insurance but I have never met anyone who was financially set from a life insurance policy, term insurance is the way to go which I have.. Secondly for Mr Smart ###.. I am not having my wife skip out on creditors.. I pay my bills, but healthcare costs in the US are ridiculous!! I see good hard working people time after time struggle to afford medicine, trying to pay off huge medical debt, struggle with just meeting life's basic necessities.

I am lucky I have no chronic illness I am in great shape and hopefully all the careful planning I do will negate any lasting negative effects for my wife...

But if anyone thinks I am going to feel guilty about stiffing these A.holes that run big pharma,the greedy hospital administrators that think healthcare is a profit motive business,and the corporate insurance companies who try to do everything they can to get out of paying for the services you paid for by denying your claims or coverge... I am all for leaving those f tards with nothing but my last pile of my steaming sh*t

You will want to look into long term care insurance because nursing homes are very expensive.

Buy life insurance policy..At least, in case of death, your wife and kids will not be thrown into financial hardship.

A friend of mine died recently from lung cancer. he found out at last stage. He had recently filed for AOS and waiting for his GC but died before everything got done. He had married for less than 2 yrs and his wife's insurance covered 80%. The few months of cancer treatment was enough to send his wife into financial hardship. Thankfully, friends stepped in to contribute.

But if he had life insurance, his wife would have been cushioned financial.

but in your case, you are thinking about the future so, please buy one before it is too late.
