Hello,

This is my first time to be in this forum. I've looked everywhere for help I have no money for a lawyer. Few days ago I got my citizenship through 3 year rule my wife and I been married nearly 5 years now. I was happy and she was too but little did I know she had other plans. Now she's moved out saying she wants divorce from me and that she doesn't love me anymore she can stay with me anymore. God I don't know what I did I'm still trying to figure out what happened or what's going on. We met when I was in school I was an international student then. Although we've had fight and arguments just like other marriages but she never appeared to be this way. Should I contest this or what do I do? My fear is immigration would think we marry cos of citizenship. Should I sign the divorce papers for her? I have no money for lawyer and she said all she want is divorce from me. I'm scared please help.

if you are already a us citizen them you don't have nothing worry about. you can sign the divorce.

Sorry to hear about your situation. If the relationship is over then it is likely to be in the interests of both parties to do an uncontested divorce. Sign the papers and move on with your life. You have your citizenship and I doubt immigration can do anything, especially since she is the one wanting a divorce.

Yes I already have my naturalization certificate with me. My fear is what if in the future I plan to marry again and I don't think I will because I never knew women could be this way. With what she's done I would have a hard time trusting any woman in my life. I gave her everything I worked day and night for our marriage to succeed. I think she's been planning this for months that I didn't know of. I'm always at work bursting my ### off now she wants to divorce me oh my God. What I'm concerned about is who knows tomorrow if I decided to marry someone like me with no papers at first and file for the person will immigration look back on this saying I divorced early after naturalization?

You are hurt right now which is understanding. But just remember just because their is some pirate fish out there, there still a plenty of other nice fish in the sea :)

They want look at all that, you need to relax. Like said you are a citizen now and that's what they will look at.

Then you are good, maybe she held off till now so that you could get the citizenship as if she had filed before you had your oath then she would be causing you to have to wait another two years to become a citizen?

It looks like she is filing, so you can show that you weren't the one to immediately divorce after the oath.

Concentrate on you now, dont worry about what ifs for later down the line and don't rush into another relationship.

Wishing you the best.

If you already have citizenship, this is a non-issue. :)

IF you marry a foreigner soon and would be seeking immigration benefits for them, then yes, they may look closely at your citizenship and the circumstances.

However, since you plan on being single for a while, it should not be a problem.

As long as 5 years have passed since the day you became a permanent resident through your spouse you'll be eligible to file for another spouse. Your second marriage if it so happens to be with a foreigner will have a higher though not impossible bona fide bar to meet. With her initiating the divorce and more time to the marriage down the road the better the odds are. As for your immigration concerns, no worries you're a citizen. Divorce-wise try and find coping mechanisms to help you through this difficult time in your life. Remember life goes on and everything happens for a reason. It could've been something worse, you'll get past the phase.
