No worries, you can and are allowed to enroll based on your status as an Adjustment Applicant. The rep who helped you probably just gave you the easy way out for him/her. Here's the link with backup info: http://www.coveredca.com/individuals-and-families/getting-covered/immigrants/

If you need help submitting docs to prove status, call here: Covered California’s Service Center, (800) 300-1506

Here's the info, I highlighted in RED what you'll want to send to them since you don't have the EAD/AP or GC yet:

Documents to Confirm Eligibility for Covered California - Immigration Status / Lawful Presence

Applicant for Adjustment to LPR Status
- Notice of Action (I-797) (ASC Appointment notice with Case Type “I-485 Application” and “Receipt of Application for Employment Authorization based on C9”)
- Employment Authorization Document (Card) (I-766) (e.g. annotated “C9” or “C9P”)
- Employment Authorization and Advance Parole Card (I-512) (authorization for parole, indicating applicant for adjustment of status)
- Receipt showing filing or pending status of Form I-485 “Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status”

You are golden!!! Thank you so much. I just chatted with an other assistand and they have no idea what they are doing. Its really frustrating :-(

I am so glad we have each other here

Health insurance, good question. Since our spouses filed the AOS, are they required now to have health insurance?

My husband and I were just speaking of this last night, related to filing our taxes jointly this year again, and now with his SS# instead of using his ITIN as we did last year, and amended 3 past years.

To have him on my work insurance is way too high, any cheap plans out there to appease when filing the income tax

Hi everyone. Hope you have a relaxing weekend and are able to find some peace after dealing with the stress of the AOS journey. We're sending lots of positive thoughts everyone's way.

And just wanted to let everyone know that our EAD/AP was finally approved this week (Day 78). We enlisted the support of our Senator last week and we're pretty sure we wouldn't have gotten approved this week (and before 90 days) without their help. The Senator's staff reached out to them on Monday Dec 12 (Day 76) and USCIS responded to them in less than two business days with the approval notice.

We sent the Senator's staff 1) the job offer letter, 2) another letter from the potential employer saying not hiring me would be a financial loss for them 3) another cover letter from me (3 pages) to the Senator outlining our financial predicament, our timeline, the job offer etc. 4) evidence of my wife's (USC) substantial student debt.

Also just saw that our EAD status has been changed online to Card shipped yesterday (Dec 16, 2016) so hopefully we get it by Christmas which will put it right around Day 90 which makes you wonder what the processing times are without expediting. We didn't get an RFE so we were quite concerned that the EAD was taking so long. I'm fairly confident that, given the holidays coming up, without the Senator's help, we wouldn't have gotten the EAD within the 90 day timeframe, even if we expedited ourselves.

One question. Next step is to go to the social security office. What do I need to bring? Just the combo card? Can I get my ID with the combo card too? I mean it has a pic my name and my birthdate on it...

For the state ID, we took the SS card, EAD card, birth cert, and proof of residency, (such as mail addressed to him ) that is what Tx requires to obtain a Texas ID card.

Hi, Ive read that if you are approved for AOS on the spot the IO will collect your EAD from you right then. If you havent received it yet, Will that make the pending EAD void? Just curious to know if you read anything like that because that would mean you would have to then wait for your GC to work, correct?

I doubt i will get card before Wednesday so won't be able to hand it over. If approved, i think i will get my green card in about a couple of weeks here. When i get my green card the EAD is no longer valid. Either way I am still eligible to work from the date on EAD. :-)
