You say its not a legit app. The USCIS website status update notification service cant find my original receipt number they sent me? They did not notify me of any changes to my case as requested by me when I originally singned up for notification changes to my case. However when I downloaded the app it sent me an alert with a new receipt number that had been assigned to my case. I put that number into the legitimate Gov  USCIS site and it gave me the same response as the app sent me? The response reflect the same date on my original receipt number that the USCIS did not have a record of. How would the app know of that change (the new alert receipt number assigned to my case), unless it was directly connected somehow to the USCIS site. Maybe someone has contracted with them to lessen the calls for service or something. Like I said on the legitimate USCIS site when I log into my account there is no updated information but yet when I put in the new number the app sent me into the legitimate USCIS site, it gives me the updated information on my case? They have to be connected somehow?

I would bet good money that this app is made by a quest on able lawyers office that if things do not go well with your case will try to sell you services.

also it is very easy to find case numbers on the uscis website and they don't give you enough information to determine if they are actually linked to you so they can give the same response to everyone or at the very least a similar one from a pool of responses so they do not give out the same one too many times.

if you want to believe it go a head but I will only check on the uscis' website since they are the source of the information.

It's not legit in the sense that it's not created by or affiliated with USCIS. You're free to keep using it but I'll be careful of apps and websites where you provide sensitive personal information.

You guys do realize the case number isn't necessarily personal or secure information, right? Reason why there is no need to even blurt it out when putting it up here. Nothing you can do with it unless you have a combination of other data such as the Alien Registration #, Date of Birth, Name etc.

If the case # was so personal, USCIS wouldn't make it easily searchable on their own site. It's just an ID (incremental by order of filing)..so e.g. you are 2, another person is 3 etc.

When signing up for these apps, you only put in your case number and it basically queries the USCIS site by way of a web service USCIS made publicly accessible for these same reasons (use by 3rd party app developers etc.).

The service is available at https://catalog.data.gov/dataset/uscis-my-case-status  and anyone is welcome to use this web service to build a variety of apps.

This is legal app , when u go to uscis.gov you can see uscis app . Even uscis never let anyone to use their data. That app is safe . It is by uscis.

The app is definitely not one that was rolled out by USCIS but in line with what @ManCharsey said above, the app uses a public service USCIS created for 3rd party developers so it's legit in the sense that it's not reporting false information and its not requiring more information beyond the case # for the query. Anything beyond that like an SSN, Full name, DOB, Address etc. will make it untrustworthy as the USCIS case tracker doesn't require that.

The app doesn't need to ask for a SSN. All mobile apps ask for access to gallery, texts, contacts. It will know your SSN and a lot more. You gotta be crazy to take the risk of giving USCIS or USCIS related representatives access to your phone. that, not me. Plus you really think that the app will give you more information than the ones in the USCIS database? Come on, please. Theres a backlog, they are processing may/june, It is what it is.

You think about it, they are approving May now, because they need to finish the process before the  year extension expires. May is two months from now. We are a couple of months away, we will all be approved (So help us God) in a couple of months most likely when we reach 10 months in line. Now we are at 8. This nightmare will end soon folks.

I hope you're right that we'll be approved before our 1 year extension expires. But they don't "need to finish the process" before any particular date. There's already a policy in place, that requires us to make an infopass appointment, go into our local USCIS office to receive an I-551 stamp in our passports, which gives us an additional year extension, and acts as proof of our legal status. So there's no requirement for USCIS to get caught up. We hope they will, but we don't know.

I have a ticket booked to Canada for May.  Can I travel with my expired green card and letter of 1 yr extension, or do i need something else to travel?

You should be fine with the expired card and extension letter.

Incidentally, now USCIS, probably in response to confusion about the expiry of the extension letter, now says they will stamp your passport with the I-551 stamp 11 months after the date on the letter. (So if you got your letter dated July 10, you can get a stamp after June 11)

Your letter will still be valid in May, so you're all good!
