Brilliant! You have come full circle to my original point. The OP was about one human trafficking incident, out of thousands per the OP. The perpetrators in the OP were foreigners.

My next point wasn't the story in the OP not being a horrible one, but that is was brought up because the perpetrators were foreigners.

You failed to comprehend the OP includes the fact that there were several thousand investigations into human trafficking and have been trying desperately, and sadly, to avoid admitting your comprehension fail and somehow thought pulling out two other stories of foreigners behaving badly (both nearly 3 years old) provides some sort of proof of nobody can tell what beyond supporting your foreigners are bad prejudice. Precisely the same position as the original poster, though he tried to be more subtle sharing his deeply felt prejudice.

You can give up or give it another shot.

my physic powers are telling me that you are about to deal with either troll temper outside of WOW or radio silence.

or something about foreigners not being real foreigners. that sounds familiar though..

I am wondering why you believe prejudice against people who believe that slavery is OK and practice it is bad prejudice. Interesting, sort of like a pile of dog doo on a deserted island with no dogs is interesting but not really worth a further look.

The article was about one human trafficking incident out of 2515 investigations per the OP. Of the 2515 referenced investigations per the OP there is no information that indicates how many other human trafficking incidents were identified. Actual slavery in the US is very rare, so though I readily found a few and posted a couple of them they are by no means all-inclusive.

Take this one -

Four Central American women agreed to pay $5,000—half up front—to be smuggled into the U.S. They were taken across the border into Texas, but the gang then demanded more money. When they didn’t pay, the women were forced into lives of total servitude. By day, they worked as unpaid domestic servants. At night, they became the gang’s sex slaves. All the while, their families were extorted for more money.

How were their captors caught? Two of the women sought help from neighbors. The gang’s leader—Juan Carlos Soto—found out and ordered his men to kill the pair. The women were raped and beaten, but later let go. They reported their stories to law enforcement authorities, who searched the residence and found the other two women.

The investigation revealed that the gang was smuggling some 100 illegal aliens each week into the U.S. and that the family had been in the human trafficking business since the early ‘80s. Two alleged members of the gang—Jose Luis Villa-Zavala and Hector Soto, pictured above—fled and are wanted by law enforcement.

Make that call to your parents. Your continued and desperate re-wording and re-interpretation of the original article are also not worth a further look.

The story in the OP is reprehensible. Absolutely.

Trying to find a way to avoid my original question, and no apologies for my inferring the OP was another in a long line of OP'S designed to denigrate certain demographics, by incorrectly jumping on my 'one of thousands' (again per the OP) and keeping it up for days is pretty rediculous.

Americans are at the end of the day number 1 in cases of human trafficking in the US. Every case is different from the next, all are horrible and I for one am always pleased to hear when they are stopped.

I choose to view everyone as individuals unless and until they show signs of being bad people.

Expat1 you have stated that you live in Saudi Arabia and indicated universal distain for their beliefs and attitudes. What you don't see is that the same prejudice and superiority complexes that make Saudis treat you and others as they do are precisely mirrored in what you apparently project on to immigrants here in the US. Prejudice is after all just that, prejudice.

Prejudice against immigrants is a solid tradition in the US so you aren't alone in your thinking, simply failing to learn the historical lessons of the past.

Prejudice against slavery isn't, so I'm going to stick to that and let you continue to look foolish twisting that into "prejudice against all immigrants"

Prejudice against slavery isn't prejudice. You seem to be the one that feels that foreigners do that sort of thing as a pre-judgment, which then makes it a prejudice. I know that it's really confusing to you, one of the funny things about being prejudiced is the aspect of it coming from the sure conviction that you're right in your prejudiced beliefs. Very difficult to overcome that. I feel your pain.

Prejudice against slavery isn't prejudice.

No kidding. That's what I said Einstein.

In some cultures slavery is the norm and is taught to be OK. See it all the time. Those cultures have to leave that belief at the door or stay out.

Call that prejudice if you like. Telling people who are married to immigrants and who help others who are married to immigrants that this makes them "prejudiced against all immigrants" is asinine.

We celebrate the joys of Multiculturalism on VJ.

after half-a-lifetime of reading about Nigerian Scams,

I am giggly happy to read about Nigerian on Nigerian crime.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Three things:

1. A picture from Amistad doesn't make it so.

2. Learn to tell the difference between black people and African people.

3. As a liberal, I'm more concerned about the treatment I'm dealt with HERE in MY OWN COUNTRY.

Carry on.
