Thank you so much for the information you have provided. It helps to understand the protocols involved in filing the AOS. I do however, have some questions.

  • Does the Employment Authorization allow her to apply for a social security number? Yes, however if you have a valid I-94 form and a valid passport, you can apply. As I learnt, the requirements are kinda' different in every state, some, they ask you just the passport, some ask the EAD... At least you can go in the local SSA office and try. I recommend you to walk in personally, don't listen what they tell you on the phone... This is my experience:)
  • Does the Advanced Parole allow her to go out of the country and come back without any issues? Yes, as far as I know, this is her only chance to go out and come back without any issues. I already asked an AP, however my planned trip will be in August. You never know how much time they need to give you the approval. My opinion is to be on the safe side.
  • When I fill out the I-485 can my spouse use my last name since it will be on our marriage license? I used my married name in every paperwork (I use my husband's and my last name with a dash). They didn't send back and RFE about this, if they see yr spouse's changed name on the marriage license, you will be fine.

I realize my inquiries may appear very elementary, but I do not want to make any mistakes on my application or have RFE. Your assistance to my inquiries is greatly appreciated.

Thank you again.

Welcome in the Purgatory:D However I am a Nov AOS filer, I tried to answer yr questions as per my best knowledge:) Hope those were helpful! Keep it up!

Hi Everyone,

so me and my husband are filling out his AOS/EAD/AP, we expect to send it this weekend hopefully. My question: How do we fill out Part 7 of the I-131 form? to explain how we qualify for AP and which document should we attach? And for Part 4, Purpose of the trip, could we put anything, such as for pleasure? We don't have solid dates to travel, we fill for AP just in case he would need to travel in case of emergency. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

From part 3 (question 4d) You skip to part 7 (it says so on the form)

Part 7 I didn't fill out a piece of paper, I only checked the multiple box. (so it will be an RFE or it's not required).

So, I used registered USPS priority mail to send the AOS package. Now I learned that registered is notoriously slow if very safe, should have used certified. Argh. Oh well, waiting a few more days on top of everything else... And I learned something about USPS...

Just saying hello to my neighbors in line. We mailed it (AOS, AP, EAD) using FedEx on Weds (1/13) and we know it was delivered on Thursday 1/14. Waiting for our NOA and thinking wow, it was awesome to have that 45 day break not waiting on some type of government document (visas, noa's, packets, etc). No driver's license in the state of FL until we can give them an NOA. No job until the EAD. No honeymoon until the AP. SIGH!!!!!!!
