I wasted three hours tonight with MoneyGram's website to send my fiancee money. It keeps failing to "verify" me. The main problem, they follow government regulations. I tried with them on the phone, no good. They told me to drive to a store. So, I apparently have to waste gas money to go to a CVS pharmacy, with cash, to pick up yet another telephone. First, how do I know they will not deny me because I do not have answers for them. Two, why am I still bothering with them and not Western Union? Because MG is closer to where my fiancee is right now. I got a feeling WU will fail too, just because. As a matter of fact, they failed me many times trying to send money just a couple of states away!!! So what do I do if I can not get money to her? How can i get money to her other than these two bozo companies?

Thanks.

My husband has been using xoom.com since 2008 and I have been using it since I got here almost 2 years now. They have a flat rate fee and you will be using your checking/savings for $4.99 or debit card for a little higher fee.

I have used XOOM, but I now use REMITLY as there is no fee and the exchange rate is higher. Never a problem.

All the companies are now asking for more detailed information, I had XOOM require it, then later REMITLY.

I used to have problems sending money, but that's because my Texas bank didn't like any of those outfits and randomly refused to allow those outfits access to the money I was telling the outfits to send. I got another bank and haven't had problems, except for when I forgot to turn my VPN off.

Xoom is so 2008....LOL

https://www.remitly.com/us/en/philippines/pricing

They have free but she must wait 3-4 days to pick up the money.

Best route is pay 3.99 which is 1.00 less than xoom AND the exchange rate is better.

With the 3.99 option she can pick up right away and in almost any town.

Both MoneyGram and WesternUnion have online clients / portals for sending money. MoneyGram is sketchy at best. Their security protocols are so heavy sometimes that it makes the process not worthwhile. I have been denied more times using MoneyGram online than any other method (even after following up a transaction with a phone call to verify security questions.) MoneyGram is wholly unreliable.

Western Union online has served me well. Once an account is established, the process is quick and easy and about 99% reliable. I have had very few issues with WU whether using their online client or the WU app on my smartphone.

Keep in mind that the Philippines enforces heavy restrictions on currency transactions from other countries. The Philippines governemnt limits the number of transactions a single receiver can have each month (I don't know what the restrictions are). i.e. a receiver can only receive ten transactions per month and / or a total of $X.XX. If you find that you have reached the limit in any given month, simply send to a new receiver (another family member).

Hope this helps

I send money to the Philippines via Western Union all the time. I have never had a problem.

I use to send it through WU all the time and they started giving me problems about it, so I just switched from them to Xoom.
