Second (and maybe a third try) at B2 visa

Aloha,

A couple weeks ago Soumanti interviewed a second time for a B2 visa. She was rejected again,

but the interview lasted longer and she feels she was given more of a chance. She was told

the main problem was proving she had adequate resources to finance her trip.

I wrote an invitation letter stating my intention of covering her. I provided all the documents to prove

she would be in good hands. But obviously that didn't carry a lot of weight.

Soumanti had the feeling that the interviewer was trying to indirectly tell her that this was the only

issue holding her back. That said, what are some possible strategies for a third interview? Two ideas

I have are either sending her money to bank or opening a bank account here in her name.

Any thoughts and ideas are very much appreciated.

Mahalo,

Bill and Soumanti

I just got approved, and let me tell you this, I wasn't asked to show money in a bank account, actually I don't like to save money in banks but at home (old school) ,anyways, you could have 10 credit cards, and 10,000 usd in your bank account and still wouldn't care as long as if the consul thinks that her job isn't well paid enough to go on a trip to the U.S and come back to her country. Job and family attachments are what they are looking for, everybody is a possible illegal inmigrant, they know that anybody could ask someone to make a deposit to a random bank account, they are trained to detect threats to their country. I'd advice her to get a better job, one that actually she would refuse to "leave behind" when travelling to the U.S.

Good luck! :)

How far along are you in the K1 process?? Personally I wouldn't waste the time and money, and meet up elsewhere ..Good luck anyway.

There is no K1 yet. We will assemble that when we're together - whether it be

here or India. Going there is Plan B.

Mahalo for you civil reply and good wishes.

Ah. Maybe you should change your timeline-it appears as if the K1 process is underway already.

So you have never met irl? Has she visited the States before? I would go with plan B -much less hassle IMO.

No, we have not met as of yet. She was here in February as a guest of University

of Hawai`i.

Yeah, Plan B would be a DeAndre Jordan slam dunk. But... according to her, the interviewer

was very focused on the funding aspect of the trip. She gleaned from that that if that could be 'fixed'

she would have a chance, And our life will be here.. We'd prefer to make a life changing decision

in the environment that we would exist... And 5 months together sounds a whole lot better than 2 - 3

weeks.

Hmm. I would take note of what Perla and Austin posted.

I applied for a B2 visa 3 times (third time lucky), and was not asked about my finances at any of the three interviews... Ties to your own country appear to be more important than how much money one has in a bank. Most definitely wouldn't deposit money into the account of someone I had never met IRL...

It is all about her and her situation and her money and ties.

If you put of your money in an account in her name is more likely to make matters worse.

She can apply as often as she likes.

You can let it go now and move on.

The retired consul (who recently joined VJ) emphasizes that the key issue in granting or refusing tourist visas is not "why you want to go" but "why you will return." Keep that foremost in mind.

You're being overly optimistic about the 5 months. There is no way to know how long a visit a person will be granted at the port of entry.

First things first, go and meet face to face. Then you can move forward. The better funding will not be you plopping money into an account. She has a history with the embassy. The file only grows thicker. A sudden windfall would need to be explained. As others have stated, it is likely more problem than help.

Again, go meet this person. No need to continue wasting time with the visitor visa applications.

I will caution you on dumping your money into her account.

That will be like trying to help her beat the system but know that it will only leave you vulnerable.

It's like using counterfeit to buy coke (not the drink)..the law won't protect you..

Meet her in a country where she wouldn't need a visa or you can visit her.
