How long after applying for citizenship will you become a citizen?

My husband moved here from Scotland in February 2012. We got married in March 2012 and he got his GC in April 2012. So that means he can apply for citizxen ship April 2016, right? Also, he works for a company that has offices all over the world. He and I have been discussing him transferring to the Glasgow office after he becomes a citizen. We most likely won't live there the rest of our lives and would eventually return to the US. Is that allowed once he's a citizen?

How long does it take to become a citizen after applying?

Thanks in advance!

Is there something wrong with your timeline? Because it took only a month for his GC to come!

Did he file remove of condition?

And yes, he can work anywhere he wants after he gets citizenship but tax is not exempt though.

The time it takes to become a citizen is much depending on where you live and the workload at that office and if there is anything making the background check drag out. It can be any where from 3 to who knows.

Sorry, I meant April 2013, not 2012. Oops!! Yes, he got his condition of marriage removed and received his new GC.

When you say "3 to who knows", do you mean 3 months?

Seems 6 months is the norm where I am, YMMV.

My office, anchorage, shows that they are working on cases sent in in January but I sent my papers in in July and have my interview on Tuesday so the info online isn't always accurate. Now I still don't know how long before my oath but they seem fairly fast up here..

His greencard will say resident since April ?, 2013. He can send the application 90 days before April ?, 2016. In those three months they will do processing and he will have a biometric appointment, but he can not actually be a citizen until his eligibility date of April 2016. Often the interview won't be until after that date has passed. So he passes the interview, but he is not a citizen yet. There is an oath ceremony he must attend. Some local offices schedule for the next monthly ceremony. Some have small same day ceremonies. Some only do a ceremony every 2-3 months. It will depend on the local office how quickly they can give an interview and how soon they will schedule his oath ceremony. He could be a citizen by April/May or maybe not until the end of summer. Once he has the ceremony and gets his naturalization certificate that day, he can apply for his passport with the certificate.

Once a citizen, he has no rules about moving out of the country. He doesn't have to deal with USCIS anymore.
