B1B2 cancelled during green card interview?

Does the B1B2 visa get cancelled AUTOMATICALLY in an applicant's passport during a green-card interview? Or can it be kept valid so that the applicant may travel to the US and then return to complete processing later after the interview?

Generally it is cancelled. One of the requirements of a B visa is non-immigrant intent. This is obviously gone once a green card has been issued.

However, I am Canadian and do not travel on B visas, so someone with more experience will correct me if I am wrong

Why would you need the B1B2 after your green card interview. Hopefully after the interview they take your passport and return it with the visa you are petitioning for.

Thank you. If they need like 10 business days to return it, then I may need to exit to get out for an exam before it comes. I'm just checking all my options.

Yes, your B visas are cancelled without prejudice during the GC interview. There's no reason for alarm.

I suspect B visa is cancelled at GC interview.. reason behind obtaining the B1/2 (short term visit) is no longer valid (new immigrant intent). Opposite rationale behind the two visas.

Also, if you need to travel to the US between your interview and the issuance of your visa, that would not be possible because the embassy will have your passport.

Yes it is cancelled at interview 'without prejudice' once interview is successful. Passport will also be held for issuing of IV.
