Oh okay, I did not know you applied for AP as well.

In this case you will receive a combo card (EAD+AP). It will be stated on it that this card is valid for reentry to the U.S. So yes, once you receive that combo card, you will be able to travel outside the US and you will be allowed to come back. All you would have to do is to bring your combo card and foreign passport.

I know that US Lawful Permanent Residents (greencard holders) are allowed to travel to Canada without a visa, but I'm not sure about EAD/AP combo card holders. You might want to wait to get your greencard before travelling to Canada, but you can always do some research and find out how it works.

Yes, there is a naturalization test to pass before your citizenship ceremony. But it is still years from now and you can read about it a lot on this site in different sub forums and in the Guides above.

I wish you all the best.

wow really? i never imagine that that travel document will accept you go and come back like that. WOW so surprising! Need to work getting some money saving for the trip later then mean while waiting for the green card. I am really excited!

You know a lot of things, guessing you already having your green card?! So so useful!

I am really grateful for your information. helps me out a lot and make my day! thanks a lot !!!!

Look, it is like this: EAD+AP (combo card) makes an Adjustment Applicant's life easier by allowing the immigrant with pending AOS to: work (EAD) and travel (AP). Once you get your greencard you won't need the combo card anymore: the greencard itself allows you to work and travel and you become a Lawful Permanent Resident.

No, I don't have my greencard yet. I applied for AOS/EAD in March, and just received my EAD a little more than a week ago. I didn't apply for AP - so accordingly, my card says "Not valid for reentry to the US". I will travel outside the US only once I have my greencard in hand. Not that it is risky to travel on AP, it was just my personal decision not to apply for it.

Thank you for the compliments. I'm glad I could help. :)

I applied that since some friend i know told me about it. Pretty upset since the lawyer we hire just for checking for the papers did not tell me about the last name /maiden name we talked about lately. But its fine. gonna step by step.

So you applied one month earlier than me. It seems like we gonna have each thing each month.EAD this month, next month gonna be interview. ..I dont know if the interview is hard or not?! pretty nervous.

You are welcome :) I am happy that it is so nice to find someone to talk so easily about things like this which was hard to find before

Not all lawyers are good. This is actually a DIY site, so the vast majority of members here don't use a lawyer. I personally prefer to handle my own immigration paperwork. I did the K1 visa paperwork (and now AOS) by myself, with the help of the information I found on this site and on the USCIS website. But then again, I've been on this site for more than a year and I have spent tons of hours here doing research about this and that.

The AOS interview is easy for some and very hard for others. It solely depends on your own case. There are tons of threads and reviews on this site about AOS interview experiences. Feel free to read those. :)

Just to remind you, Vietnam embassy in the U.S. doesn't let you renew passport once your name is changed in the States. You will have to renew your passport in Vietnam with your Vietnamese id (cmnd) if you want to keep your Vietnamese passport.

Hi Nancy,

As you said, so if my name will be changed in the future, and i still want to keep Vietnamese citizen, and would like to renew i have to go back to Vietnam and renew? If i wont change my name, i dont have to come back and do that right?

By the way, when i go back to Vietnam i dont need to ask for visa, just my husband has to apply for visa or he can apply to enter Vietnam without visa since he goes with me? Thank you

Here is the list of the USCIS field offices. Click on the USCIS office you wish to read about, and you will be able to see the reviews written by members: http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.php?stats=cis

You don't need visa if your Vietnam passport is still valid.

He can ask for "certificate of visa waiver - Mien Thi Thuc 5 nam" -> http://mienthithucvk.mofa.gov.vn/H%C6%B0%E1%BB%9Bngd%E1%BA%ABn/H%E1%BB%93s%C6%A1th%E1%BB%A7t%E1%BB%A5c/tabid/80/Default.aspx

It is cheap for only $125, most of Viet travel angency do it, or you can apply it in person at VN Consulate General in Houston, TX.

SSN once issued is yours for life but all you need to do is to go to SSN office nearest to you to update your Information's with them. The Number will still be the same but your status will be updated in their system.

If you actually would have taken the time to read the replies, you would see that her question regarding SSN (among many others) has already been answered thoroughly.

She doesn't need to apply for a new Social Security Card for now. She has all her documents in her maiden name and she already has a Social Security Card (also in maiden name) that says "Valid for work only with DHS authorization".

And by the way it is called SSA (Social Security Administration) office, and not SSN office.
