my fiance and i got our NOA2 on the 12th, he is in COLOMBIA and hasnt received his packet 3 yet...researching on the internet i read that i have to send an AUTHENTICATED copy of my divorce...yes i was married a long time ago. so i only have a copy of my divorce, not an original...it was just emailed to me by the lawyer. it has all the stamps and stuff from the court BUT what i dont know is if it has to be a physical signature, not a copy of what was signed.. today i find out getting it authenticated is not as easy as getting something notarized, read some stuff online and found out where i can send it to be authenticated BUT it doesnt say if i can send the copy that i have ......anyone else have to do this b4???? i want to get this done so i can mail it to him since it takes a while and we want to do things as fast as possible.

Go to the court house where the divorce paperwork was filed. You will be able to get a certified copy, for a fee.

Good luck!

Copy of the certified decree is OK.

You can, and should, send copies.

The stamps/seal.signature from the court is what makes it 'authentic'. You cannot 're-authenticate' it. You could order new certified(authentic) copies from the court, if you wish. You may even be able to order them online.

If you are still legally using your ex-husband's name, then that is the name you use on the forms. Only put your maiden name where it asks for other names used. Yes, include a copy of your previous marriage certificate to show the name change, since you currently go by a different name than shown on your birth certificate. Make sure to include the copy of that divorce decree too.
