I don't think there are many true followers of any religion. People pick and chose the parts that suit their needs at a particular moment. Christianity started out pretty simple and grew into thousands of offshoots, all because people didn't like the original rules. It was too hard.

I think that's a bit unfair personally. There is a difference between religiosity and being religious.

You don't have to agree with the spiritual beliefs of individuals but they should be afforded some level of respect.

To the very few people that stick to their beliefs and take them seriously, I have respect. I don't agree with their beliefs, but I respect their right to have and adhere to them. To the majority of believers that talk out both sides of their mouths and change their beliefs like they change their underwear, I have none.

How do you know that the vast majority of religious people don't take their religious beliefs seriously?
