Hi guys,

My interview is next Tuesday and I'd like to pick your brain. Has anyone ever gone to the interview without a lot of paperwork? Bringing only the necessary documents?

I have a "visa folder" that is half organized. It contains boarding passes, hotel receipts, tickets to shows/games, ring receipts, all the good stuff like that going from 2008 to 2015. I *could* add Facebook messages, e-mails, call history, pictures and similar proof of relationship to it and carry that thing with me. I just ... don feel I need to.

I have been at that Embassy at least 6 times so far. Emailed them on several occasions. Got three tourist visas, my INIT, permission for my husband to marry, reported a birth of a US citizen abroad. I will be attending the interview with a baby and a stroller and a diaper bag packed for an all day out of the house and I just don't want to carry 5 pounds of paperwork that are probably redundant. :(

The only "proof" I have put in my documents so far is a letter from our apt complex office saying that I am cohabitating with my husband and that they know I am a tourist. I just came back from the US where I stayed 5.5 months on a tourist visa and our front office made me co-sign the lease because they could not treat me as an "overnight guest" with such a long stay. I figure that and the baby is all I need.

Should I be practical and take only what was specifically requested (birth, wedding certificates, medical, joint taxes) or should I play it safe and bring everything I can gather as proof of relationship?

Hi Ivy

It won't hurt to bring all you have. There is no way to know what they will ask for. I had my wife take in a duplicate package of everything we sent to the NVC just in case something got lost in the process. I would suggest putting the required docs in a separate folder so they are easily accessible. Then take the rest in another folder. It's better have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Take anything that can show proof.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

You can do whatever you think is best - I also didn't really think I would need anything other than the required documents but still showed up to the interview yesterday with a HUGE BINDER of evidence, copies of packets sent, etc. I didn't even have to open the binder, it was totally unnecessary. :) It made me feel better, though, and just in case something happened I didn't want to be unprepared. I prepared for the worst, hoped for the best. I think you'll probably be fine like I was, but it's a personal decision!

As you know, Our case was completed last week friday(02/13) but not yet received CC email. it is the 7th day since then : )

Thankyou so happy we at the next level of this process now... I've decided I'm not gonna worry about the CC email. I'm just looking forward to the interview email now.

Hey, congrats on your approval! I will look for your post with info on how it went, thanks for your experience! :)

Thanks! :) I'll do my best to write the proper review on my timeline this weekend. I had to wait for about 4 hours. I was the VERY LAST person in the embassy (seriously, everyone was gone and people were cleaning up and I was still there)... I had heard many horror stories about this, but learned yesterday that being the last person there doesn't necessarily mean bad things.

The CO was suuuuper nice, and apologized for the delays. I guess the thing that stands out to me the most is that I sort of expected the interview to be like Question 1 - Question 2 - Question 3 ... but it was actually more like a conversation with a friendly stranger. The CO started out like "I guess I understand your situation, blah, you met your wife on X and then long distance and blah blah, is that right?" and then from there it was more like a conversation where we talked about my relationship. I guess several things in the usual "questions" you see came up, like where she works, or who visited who usually. The only question that felt more like a question was whether she had met my family (yes) and whether I had met hers (also yes). I just said "yes, I met X, Y, and Z and she met R, S and T" and that was that. :) He did say my case had a lot of good evidence though! I think after he told me I was approved he asked what I planned to do in the US.

I promise a better review later but that's the gist of it!

Ivy, I'm so happy for you! This has been a long haul for you!

I would suggest taking a copy of all documents that NVC could have lost - just in case. If there are any additional "proof" documents that show your relationship between your NVC submission and today, then have those handy. The baby is probably your best proof!

We didn't have to show ANYTHING, but I was glad I had the documents. It was about a 3 inch folder. Yes, it was heavy. But the security it gave us was worth it.

Best of luck!

Ahmad, there are several of us, a 12/30, 01/09, 01/30, and myself with 02/17 case complete date, still waiting for interviews with the Cairo embassy. From what I have seen, Cairo completed scheduling on 12/29 for interviews in February and has not scheduled anything since. Well, at least not for any of the people on the JV form. I think you just need to be patient.

What is going on in cairo embassy?

They did not schedule any visa type for march on vj ,

They did not even show february scheduling on their website , the link is down..

Anybody knows anything regarding this ?!!!

I have made several attempts to get them to fix the website, but have gotten nowhere. I'm not sure what is going on with them, but something seems off. I have seen many of the K1 visa applicants complaining recently also. Many stating they have not been receiving confirmation their documents have been received and that the embassy is not good about responding to inquiries. A few even mentioned that the embassy stated they are currently scheduling K1 interviews for documents received in November. I recently saw a VJ member only given 4 days notice for their K1 interview. Should be interesting to see what happens when scheduling starts next month.
