So, my husband participated in the oath ceremony last week in Durham, NC. (woohoo!) All we had read leading up to the event, and the specific instructions in the oath notification letter led us to believe this was to be a solemn, official proceeding. I was expecting an atmosphere not unlike court...or perhaps like a legislative session. Formal. Dignified. I have to say I was more than a little taken aback by the actual experience. It felt a little more like a pep rally at an SEC football game... complete with a halftime show including Lee Greenwood and John Philips Sousa.... It just made me wonder how much leeway there is in how the ceremony is conducted. I mean, if we were going to go so far as to include Lee Greenwood, why couldn't we have had some James Brown Living in America, too?

It was just a little weird to me...ESPECIALLY given that they went to such lengths to make sure we knew that we should dress nicely because it was such a momentous ceremony.

Anyone else have a lee greenwood video played for them?

05/20/2015: Interview, the decision was not made, requested a copy of my marriage certificate.

The wait is now becoming excrutiating and deafening. No news nothing whatsoever after an interview. Passed the interview. Document requested and submitted on scheduled and nothing whatsoever not even a letter indicating that those docs were received. Looking at the Philadelphia average decision timeline. Cases for October 2014 are still pending. Gosh! USCIS! Take our money quickly and then procrastinate! SMH!!

Hello All, my Oath Ceremony is scheduled for Monday. I am wondering what documents they are referring to when they say bring any immigration documents you may have in your possession . Would this include travel documents I had for my visa?

Otherwise I only see where I need to take my GC, and the Oath letter. Also, does my minor child who automatically becomes a citizen have to attend the ceremony?

Lastly, what should I expect? How long is the entire thing and what does this time there look like?

Finally! Today was the big day!

I had my Oath Ceremony today in LA and I am now a U.S. Citizen. :D

The ceremony itself was a nice experience, but the arrangement around it was not that well planned.

This month LA have their Oath ceremonies spread out on a few different locations, and I went to a Conference and Event center in Montebello.

(Usually, LA ceremonies are once a month in the LA Convention center for 5000 people)

I arrived to the venue about around 1:30pm, about 35 minutes before the time I was asked to report. That was good, because when I entered the parking lot, I found out that there were a $20 parking fee, and that they took cash only. I usually don't carry a lot of cash and I had only $8 in my pocket. The parking officer told me that I had to turn around and go to an ATM to get the money because he would not let me in.

A little frustrated, and with 20 cars in line behind me to get in, I do what he says and turn around to go and look for an ATM. I found one in a Liquor store about a mile away, so I got my cash and went back to the cermony venue and finally get in.

What I found annoying with the situation was that there were no information from the USCIS that there would be such a high parking fee (and cash only), and I believe it took a lot of the 741 petitioners by surprise (even if they had the cash available)

Another miss in the organization of this ceremony was that when I arrived and had parked, about 15 minutes before my time to report, the previous ceremony session was still going on, (they had 3 ceremonies there today), so everyone that was scheduled for the same ceremony as I was, had to stand in line out in the hot burning sun. There were no shade for us when we stood in the line, ( except for small fraction that were lucky to stand beside a wall.), the temperature were probably around 90 degrees in the shade, and 120 degrees in the sun. I was sweating like if I had been out running. It was hot like a sauna, and I even think that some people fainted because we stood in that line for about an hour before we were let in. Nobody were dressed or prepared for that.

Beside of those two incidents, the registration and cermony in itself was a nice experience once we got in the building. 741 petitioners from around 50 countries (they only mentioned the top 5 countries, and the rest were written on a slide show)

The ceremony itself took about 25-30 minutes and then wwe got to pick up our certificates on our way out.

Overall a very nice and professional ceremony!

So, I am now finally at the end of this part of the immigration journey.

Getting my citizenship is a huge milestone.

However, this is also a beginning of a new journey. The journey to get my wife to the US. (she is currently in Sweden)

I have a pending petition for my wife to come here on a family based visa (F2A) and it have been waiting for our priority date to become current since 2013 when we submitted the first part of our application (1-130).

Next week I am going to update the status of that application to IR1 / CR1 so that we can move forward asap. (finally)

It has been a long waiting time, long distance relationship for 4 years, but the light at the end of the tunnel is not that far away now.

Thanks everyone here in VJ for all your help and advice. This forum has been very valuable to me during my naturalization process.

I became a citizen yesterday short but sweet ceremony. :)

Yeahhhh

I got Interview Letter on 6/18, Interview Day: 7/21

Houston is not that bad!

I am glad to see most of February filers doing really well and hearing good news continuously. It is frustrating though that many of us, including myself (a Pittsburgh filer) are still waiting. Last thing for me was the biometrics. I have not been even put in line yet for an interview!!!

I have a question for those who had the interview: does the interviewer ask about every single bit of information you submitted in the application? The reason why I am asking is that I worked in so many places during the past five years, and I am afraid that the dates I mention in the interview would not exactly match with the dates I submitted in the application (my fault not copying the application before submitting it)! What do you think?
