I wanna know how much money in hand can you carry when you arrived at the airport in the Philippines. I need advice on how to like carry money there. My friend told me to have my sister open an account and we are just going to transfer money there. Thanks in advance!

I had about $300 in cash.

I called my bank to tell them I was going to Phil and the specific dates. This is ultra important because they will shut your credit card down as soon as you try to use it, figuring some hacker stole your data. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted there. AmEx is not as widely accepted and will mostly be taken at high end restaurants and hotels.

ATM machines: Use the ones at banks or at the airport. The security of ones on the street are a ####### shoot. Many of them do not use the proper security protocols so your info is subject to hacking.

My US bank advised me to use my debit card at a Philippines ATM first before using it at a business to make a purchase. That way the bank knows I'm in the Philippines because I've used my PIN at the ATM. Otherwise the bank could suspend the debit card thinking someone is just using the number or worse cancel the debit card all together.

not more than $10,000 cash

but be mindful because there's alot of pickpocketers and theives all over the Philippines. You can Western Union/Moneygram yourself when you get there.

Open an account in the Philippines under her name. Then through your bank (Wells Fargo charges $5.00) you can transfer money to her account. While in the Phil you can log into your account and transfer the money to her account and whaaaa laaaa you got money. :dancing:

It is illegal to leave the Philippines with over P 10,000. Being this website frowns on posting illegal suggestions... ;)

its better to bring cash than use credit cards. well, in the airport you should exchange your dollar inside in case you need to pay the porter to carry your bags and the taxi if you need one.

My first time there I had about $1000 cash on me when I first got the to Philippines. then I swiftly exchanged it to pesos in the Airport. I do NOT like to use my card at stores, hell half the time they would use the BDO machine and it would come back "Declined". I would then tell them to use the BPI machine and it would be accepted. After that I only brought $500 with me.

It seems you want to bring an extraordinary amount of cash. May I suggest you ask a lawyer familiar with Philippine law, not only for what is legal but also for what choice is better? A consultation does not cost that much compared to the numbers you are talking about here and could be worith its weight in gold.

So, hand-carry 90,000 usd into the PI is allowed, just do a form at the customs office at the airport before exiting the immigration control point. Sweet ! Yay Hank_ !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
