New Delhi (CNN) -- An Indian father invited to dinner a man he believes raped his 14-year-old daughter -- and then tortured and killed him, police told CNN on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old father, Vinod Kumar, turned himself into police in New Delhi the following day and told them he had burned the other man's genitals with hot tongs before strangling him to death, said Deputy Police Commissioner R.A. Sanjiv.

Kumar told police that the dead man had raped his daughter two months ago, but he didn't report it at the time because he said he feared it would tarnish his family's honor, according to Sanjiv.

When the government repeatedly fails to enforce the laws, causing the people to lose faith in justice system, people will take things into their own hands.

Taking the law into your own hands is a very shabby idea.

How does anyone know the man he killed was actually guilty?

Gut feeling isn't a basis for a system of justice.

Well, the chances of him getting any kind of justice in India for raping a little girl are slim to none. What do you do when you know the person that violated your daughter, took away her dreams and also may cause her to be unmarriable in the future?

I don't agree with what he did, but I do like the idea that this man was punished. He didn't need to kill him, but the man got what he deserved.

I do agree with what he did our family has lived thru the effects that the girl goes thru after rape in her case it was a fractured mind...took four years to get her to be able to participate in life again...she was 13 he was 38...and no justice because she was afraid to tell anyone until it was months later......not because she was afraid of us but was afraid of what he would do to her younger sisters .....this particular man has gotten away with taking her innocents and the innocents of even his own daughters......cant prove it can only prove rape did happen by the scaring .......mean while he walks around with a smile on his face and rude comments when ever he sees us.....we have to just be silent and keep on walking all of us would love to just put him away.........one day he will run into a father like this girl has and he will meet his justice.

sorry if that steps on anyone's toes

If someone raped and tortured any one of my children, they better pray they get life with no parole.

 Not guilty because he was insane at the time of the crime.

As he should. You can't go around torturing and murdering people.

You can't go around raping people either!! Especially kids!!

Rape is not less wrong depending on who the victim is.

I just don't think you can make an assumption without proof and you can't take the law into your own hands. That undermines the fundamental basis of every system of justice out there.
