Are you both by chance Nigerian? This is very unusual for a K1. They think fraud more than likely and probably think you are married.

A Stokes interview is a taped interview in which the USCIS separates a couple and asks the husband and wife questions. The goal is to determine whether the marriage is bona fide, or real.

The term Stokes refers to a federal court decision that forced the immigration service in New York to provide applicants a fair review in marriage cases.

It seems that the USCIS wants to make sure that your present marriage is bona fide. If it is, you and your wife shouldn't have a problem passing.

At the Stokes interview, the examiner will interview you and your spouse separately. Typical questions are whether you have met each other's family, your favorite foods and drinks, and how you two met.

Other typical questions involve your food and restaurant preferences, the number of TVs you have in your home and details about your home or apartment. The examiner is supposed to avoid questions that might be embarrassing.

If you can't remember something, say so. Saying you don't remember is better than making something up. If you and your spouse give the same answers, you'll probably pass the interview. If several answers are different, the examiner may deny the petition your spouse filed for you.

Beyond the interview, the examiner should consider other evidence. Examples are joint tax returns, joint bank accounts and insurance policies

Here's a link you can read about it.

thank you guys for your responses!!

what is a stokes interview? How was it? what do they ask? and what was the final outcome?

Dwheels covered it but I want to add that no two couples get the same questions that they read form a generic list.

Each question is tailored specifically to your circumstances and their suspicions.

Sometimes they ask the same question several times.

They just want to be convinced that you are a bona fide couple.

It is good that you were selected for a Stokes rather than outright refused.

I would take a Stokes any day !

Stokes are more frequently done during AOS interviews than at the embassy level.

I know of several Stokes "in person" with a USCIS officer interviewing a USC petitioner in her home while they were in AP at the embassy.

They can do this easily via phone but I guess they want to take body language in consideration and see how your "chemistry" clicks so they

require your fiance to fly out.

Whatever your red flags are be prepared to give answers about them.

I will post my final outcome when that chapter has been written.

The CO (different one than last time) was very kind, polite, professional and tactful while asking about 7 questions.(Fiance got about 35).

It went well even though I was extremely sleep deprived and when I finally drifted off the call came which I almost didn't answer (MD number).

Was wide awake when he said so and so from the embassy.......nothing like a Stokes waking you up from a couple

hours of sleep early in the morning before you had your first cup of coffee.:hehe::o

My fiance said it wasn't a 2216 form, the letter just stated that they need additional time and the case has been placed on admin process. He should hear back from the embassy within 60 days, and when they contact him he should return to the embassy at 1pm. That was it. They asked if we had any traditional, engagement, or introduction. We had a introduction and that was it. He said that the interview wasnt really an interview, the co was just typing the whole time and barely asked him questions.

First K1 denied after 16 month of AP. Refiled. We are a couple since 2009. Not a sprint but a matter of endurance.

I agree. I wish we were given that instead of being denied the first time we did the K1. We would have saved ourselves a lot of headaches and money. We were asked all sorts of questions with our CR1 and passed with flying colors. Mind you we didn't have much documentary evidence, like bank accounts and such. I don't know if the questions for a K1 stokes are the same as a CR1 stokes, but in either case you want to be well prepared.
