CDC Spent 3 Times as Much on "Community Transformation" Than On... Disease Control

How many people have gotten it worldwide and how many have died vs those who have recovered? All I'm saying if it was like the average flu outbreak each years there would be hundreds of thousands dead. And treating a few million people for Ebola isn't even a remote fantasy. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but if it did, it would make the flu like the common cold.

This discussion is about the reaction to Ebola in the US, not worldwide. The conditions here a re far superior than of those in the countries most infected.

Not true. There are at least 4 that were infected that have recovered.

Yeah 2 of those (and now a 3rd) were transported to special hospitals via private jet to top tier medical facilities. That doesn't seem like a very sustainable treatment plan.

When catching the flu means you have a greater than even chance of dying, get back to me. You're equating the flu with a disease that kills over half the people who are infected. The flu has a mortality rate of .5%.

Probably the vast majority of those are really young people, really old people, or those with other illnesses.

That will be when avian flu makes the jump to humans. Hopefully not too soon, but you never know.

Maybe. I really don't know what I'm talking about because I don't know anything about virology.

You and every one of us discussing it here.

What are you going to do, report me?

I am and you should consider my opinion about it accordingly. If I were you, I'd listen to the people who know the most about Ebola.

What I am attempting to do is show the ridiculous level of hysteria given to two deaths by Ebola compared to no reaction for 36,000 annual deaths by flu. It's way out of proportion.

My point is that people are more scared of this than they should be. Mostly based on the fact that its new and scary. The health concerns that this level of focus and outrage should be directed towards is cancer and heart disease. Because they are the most likely to kill you.

RIght, and conversely I think the govt. is trying to sugar coat it as no big deal. Remember all the hype with HIV? That was a big deal. It still is. Yet you had to have sex with a person or share a needle to get it. It seems with this disease you just need to be near a person to contract it.

If the number of cases were equal, there would be mass hysteria. I for one hope that the outbreak is knocked down ASAP.

Like I said, I would've agreed with you 2 weeks ago, now I don't think it's hysteria at all that two more people are infected simply from treating the first patient. Even when they allegedly followed safety protocols. Your comparison to the flu is not even in the same ball park. You need to let that one go. It's like comparing Ebola with an ACL tear.

I think we have been conditioned over time to accept and over look the mount of deaths every year by flu. We also get heated about the amount of gun deaths, but why not the flu? I am guilty of that as well.
