CDC Spent 3 Times as Much on "Community Transformation" Than On... Disease Control

Back to the subject of the post (God forbid a freakin' mod should help with this...): Center for Disease Control should probably focus their 'expertise' on . . . disease control, instead of branching out into safe sidewalks and bike helmets. Can you agree that disease control should be their first priority?

Disease control is their priority. You just don't agree with what they're doing or how they're doing it. Anyone that works in a specialized field knows that criticisms from people outside of a specialized field should be weighted accordingly. If you were a virologist, I'd value your opinion about viruses more, ya know?

There seems to be one common underlying factor in all of these negative posts and that underlying factor resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. I strongly believe if we had a Republican president sitting in office right now and things were being handled exactly the same, these Negative Nellies would be full of support and optimism.

Like the president is that directly involved in every agency that to reports to him. I guess, the CDC makes recommendations based on political affiliation over collective knowledge? That's some pessimistic stuff right there. Like Obama has a meeting with the director and stresses that since black people are involved, we must not place any restrictions?

Once again, this thought process is carried by more people than we care to admit. There are folks who truly think this.

Hard to say, one of the staples of the Republican platform has been tackling the "immigration issue" which really means, not letting more people in. Like that's the thing dragging our country down. Despite:

40 Percent of Fortune 500 Companies Founded by Immigrants or Their Children

We know about immigrant founders at large technology companies, such as Intel, Google and eBay. Less well known is how many immigrants and children of immigrants have founded other successful American companies.

A new report from the Partnership for a New American Economy found more than 40 percent of Fortune 500 companies were founded by immigrants or their children. Eighteen percent (or 90) of the 500 companies had immigrant founders. The children of immigrants started another 114 companies. (A copy of the report can be found here.)

One reason these figures are remarkable is that, according to the report, the foreign-born population of the United States has averaged 10.5 percent since 1850. That means immigrant entrepreneurs are overrepresented on the list of founders of Fortune 500 companies. As the report notes, “The revenue generated by Fortune 500 companies founded by immigrants of children of immigrants is greater than the GDP (gross domestic product) of every country in the world outside the U.S., except China and Japan.” These Fortune 500 companies had combined revenues of $4.2 trillion in 2010, $1.7 trillion which from immigrant-founded companies.

The report also notes,” Many of America’s greatest brands – Apple, Google, AT&T Budweiser, Colgate, eBay, General Electric, IBM, and McDonalds to name just a few – owe their origin to a founder who was an immigrant or the child of an immigrant.”

The list accompanying the research carries some surprising information, Steve Jobs, the famous co-founder of Apple, is a child of an immigrant parent from Syria. Walt Disney also was the child of an immigrant (from Canada), as well as the founders of Oracle (Russia and Iran). IBM (Germany), Clorox (Ireland), Boeing (Germany) 3M (Canada) and Home Depot (Russia).

The research shows the attribute of risk-taking that results in immigrants taking a chance on a new land in many cases can be passed along to their children. Another argument for maintaining a legal immigration open to ambitious immigrants and their families.

Head bigot and racist from the bunker

I would not change my position . . I have family that works for the airlines and there is a big concern. .. As I have maintained. 1 million + for a single hospital . Emergency room closing . Perhaps folks dying because of this . Airline stocks crashing ...... Just stop handing out visas until this is under control. Do not allow anyone into this country that has a visa stamped on the passport showing the have just traveled into these countries. Quarantine all US citizens returning from these countries. until deemed safe.

Florida currently has more concealed-carry permit holders than any other state, with 1,269,021 issued as of May 14, 2014

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

Leading my post off-topic, are we Mr. Moderator? <_<

You misrepresent: GOP isn't about "not letting more people in"; in fact, they've been overly pliant and willing to cut 'deals' with the preznit on de facto amnesty. Conservatives though would like the preznit to enforce the laws that are already in place (as he's sworn to do) instead of undermining them at every turn.

Official request to the mod/participant: please keep this thread on topic. This includes you. Thank you.

I think that's more of a Tea party platform than a straight Republican platform. It certainly wasn't a priority with the Bush admin.

How is bike safety a disease? Or the establishment (with govt. funds) of health food markets? While that may even be considered preventative medicine, it has nothing at all to do with "disease control".

Picking out one thing to discredit an entire organization is easy. Its a large organization and most likely, just like in nearly any business, some things that don't fit neatly in any other organization and don't merit their own entity get thrown under the closest "umbrella" Its normal and happens all the time in nearly any scale.

They have virologists on staff, that only study viruses and the spread there of. These are the people advising their boss who advises the president.

Its not off topic. Its directly related, Mr. Poster. Motives behind ideologies are everything and people are allowed to discuss them.

The post by the Mod was not off topic, it just happens to be one of the directions this thread has taken. Regardless of what your Mommy might have told you, you don't always get to have things your way.
