My only question is whether it's at all necessary to call the NVC. Won't they forward your case to your home embassy regardless?

Met: June 2004

To answer your question: yes, they will send it to the embassy, which will contact you. So why call the NVC?

1. For some embassies, you can set up the appointment before the embassy receives the packet, so you speed up the process a bit.

2. Peace of mind knowing the NVC has it.

3. On a relate note, being able to track your case so you know when it arrives at the embassy, and know when you can expect to get contacted.

4. For a few of us lucky ones, we call the NVC to confirm that the USCIS is full of not-so-bright people and has not yet sent our application to NVC, which can contact USCIS and ask what's going on.

So while it isn't necessary or needed for almost everyone, plenty of us do for a variety of reasons including those above.

I checked my case number and it says: READY

Case Creation Date: 22-Oct-2014 Status Updated Date:

03-Nov-2014

How can I find out where the case is right now? What does "ready" mean? And what does mean "status updated date"? It has been updated 2 times since then. I haven't received any mail from the embassy yet. I emailed and asked the embassy, but no answer yet. I already filled out my DS160 and paid the fees.

There are a number of us that are long past that. 19 days is pretty normal I think. If you pass 25, then you can start to get worried.

If it says ready...that means it's at the embassy and ur petition is ready for the interview. So just wait for packets for next steps.?

You can google your consulates words packet 3 / 4

Then review consulate information.

if you need two register and pay fee. Do so.

If you can schedule medical and interview. Do so

if you have not already assembled support documents and letter of intent. Then do so and send to fiancee in next day or two.
