Hi all,

Thanks to all the information found on VJ, and the help from several of its, uhhh, inhabitants,

my fiancee (USC) and I (beneficiary) were able to file our I-129F packet yesterday... it should

arrive at the Texas lockbox today, and then off to CSC it goes...

Hopefully, I can be in the US before the holidays... wish us luck!!

Best of luck to you both! We filed on 19 May and were sent to CSC, and we've been approved! Just waiting for the embassy in Argentina to get in touch now.

HELP- Quick Question!

My fiancé will probably be in U.S by December (fingers crossed). I plan to have the wedding in February, but I guess that is subject to change since we won't know the exact day for his approval. Does this mean that we definitely have to have the wedding ceremony within the 90 days he gets here, or will a marriage certificate suffice. We do plan on having the ceremony, but as far as timing is concerned, I am curious to know if there is some flexibility when it comes to the actual wedding ceremony?

Congrats!! Ours went through CSC and from my observation, it is one of the fastest service center compared to the others. I hope all goes well for you two!

K-1 Visa Timeline:

11-20-2013: I-129F application sent to Dallas Lockbox

11-29-2013: NOA1 received via both text and e-mail. Case sent to California Service Center.

12-05-2013: NOA1 hard copy received

12-09-2013: "Alien registration number assigned" (according to the case status online)

01-09-2014: NOA2, petition approved via online status (41 days after NOA1)

01-13-2014: NOA2 hard copy received

01-29-2014: Fiance received letter in regards to assembling Packet 3 (Seems like the NVC touched and forward the case)

01-31-2014: Received hard copy from Dept. of State/NVC about Packet 3. Case number assigned.

02-26-2014: Took a 2 weeks vacation together with family for our little engagement celebration

03-28-2014: Finally gathered all necessary documents from the beneficiary's end

04-07-2014: Packet 4 received with interview date

Welcome to the forum! (Psst... it's far better to start your own thread than to hijack someone else's.)

You must marry within the 90 days of the beneficiary's arrival. Do a courthouse marriage, get the certificate, prepare the Adjustment of Status package (you've allocated the funds for this in advance, right?), and send it in. You can have the wedding ceremony/party anytime thereafter, whenever you want.

Crucial point that many overlook: Carve no plans in stone until the visa is IN HAND. Never ever underestimate the consular phase of this process, and absolutely never presume the granting of the visa.

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
