Today I met with my attorney and when she was explaining how the immigration process works she said:

"Nobody ever gets approved on the spot! In my many years of experience only one case has been approved on the spot."

When I told her that I had read many positive stories on VisaJourney where people leave the office knowing that they have been approved, she said:

"You have to stop reading the stuff you find online."

I was so disappointed at her negative attitude.

Why is she being such a pessimist?

I know from people on VisaJourney that there are many people that get approved on the spot. Right?

Your lawyer is lying to you. Or your lawyer only takes difficult cases because most people with normal cases don't bother with a lawyer.

By her own admission, your lawyer knew of one such case. So clearly she knows it can happen, and now she says it never happens. That's dumb.

Some of the people here say the're approved on the spot but nothing happens after that for a couple of days, but there definitely are some that leave interview with stamp in the passport - those definitely are approved on the spot. While your lawyer is saying this - how about asking her...

Lawyers don't like their authority/knowledge to be challenged. Mine has told me similar to other things when I read online otherwise....Lawyer's can have big egos....I've learned over my years, you need to have your own knowledge on how things work and don't just blindly trust and accept what lawyers say.... They simply don't have time to spend following up thoroughly on your case and will say stuff to get you to leave them alone and things happen when they happen.

04/08/2014 - I485 updated to "transferred to local office"
04/12/2014 - Received transfer notice in mail stating file transferred from Nebraska to NBC Lee Summit, Montana (so disappointed as I thought it was at local office now).
04/14/2014- emailed Nebraska and scopscata to see what's going on with file due to conflicting info I've gotten and NBC doesn't even show processing I485.
04/14/2014- Got response from scopscata saying will look into email, forward to resolution team.
04/14/2014- I485 updated to "485 was transferred and is now being processed at USCIS office"
04/25/2014- Text message and case update online "testing and interview" stage.
05/06/2014- Text message and case update online with interview date of June 11, 2014.
06/05/2014-Notice sent by NYC acting district director/office that interview date is Aug 21, 2014.....??????????? No change online
06/11/2014 - Interview for AOS. I130 was already attached. Approved and got passport stamped. YAY. Thank God.
06/19/2014 - Case updated online with text and email saying new card mailed.....

lawyers not like this site - as it's a DIY Immigrate to the USA WebPortal.

When one does it via DIY - well - the attorney fees evaporate.

I was approved on the spot recently and even got the I-551 stamp in my passport without even asking for it, even saw her stamp APPROVED on my file right in front of me so your lawyer is really full of it.

My husband's AOS(from a K-1 visa) interview was about 5 minutes long. Approved on the spot and already had the paper ready for him to sign, which was pre-printed with the current date, that said he was approved for permanent residency. He then explained about the removal conditions 90 days before his green card expires. He had us sign a copy of that same letter for their records, and said his green card would arrive in the mail in about 10 days. His green card arrived in our mailbox 8 days later.

Probably the best advice we received from the two different attorneys we consulted was that, either we filed on our own for being a straight forward case, or hire them for $3,500.00. We filed ourselves, it was a hellish job to put everything together, weeks of exhausting work but at the end we were happy with the final product.
