Hello Everyone,

My fiancé will be entering Detroit, Michigan using his K1 on May 17th. He previously had a B2 visa in his passport. We were wondering if the B2 should have been voided by the CO when he was issued the K1? Would there be a stamp or 'VOID' stamp on the B2, or may it have been voided internally, and how will the CO in Detroit know the B2 is voided and not being used when he does POE? Please help! We only have 3 weeks till he travels. Thank You all so much in advance.

Yes we have the package

Should the B2 have an actual VOID stamp on it from the consulate, or does the K1 just trump the B2?

It was likely automatically voided, although usually they will explicitly void it with a stamp or marking it out by hand and writing "VOID" over it. It's not important, and if there is any confusion he should just say "I'm entering on a K-1".

Ok thank you. But the fact the B2 isn't stamped 'VOIDED' wont effect him using his K1? We know you cant have more than one visa at any given time.

1. It won't matter and 2. You can have more than one visa at a time.

I have never heard of a voided stamp on a visa.

AOS for my husband

I've seen a handful of people post about it here. I don't think it's either a common or uncommon practice. Typically it happens at the embassy when a beneficiary already has a B visa and is applying for a K-1 or immigrant visa, sometimes the IO will void their existing visa upon issuance of the new one. It happening or not happening isn't really a cause for alarm in either case.

Thank You for all the replies. We searched it on here also but couldn't find a solid answer. It seemed pretty obvious he would just say he is arriving on a K1. We really appreciate it! Now we can finish packing and get him here! Thanks :)

It will not matter as he is entering on K1, after that he will be on AP or GC both of which "trump" the tourist visa. I had an extant B1 ocs in my old passport, i asked them if they wanted to see it (at interview) as it was still valid "no" was the answer.

When I left New Zealand for the US on a K-1 visa, I also had a 10 year B1/B2 valid visa. The visa was not voided. At the Port Of Entry- I just mentioned to the officer that I am entering on a K-1 visa and the officer was completely okay with that.

So your fiance will be perfectly alright.

Sometimes people need to use their other visa before entering as an immigrant.
