Paper clips or staples? on I-129F

A ridiculous question, but I am ever the perfectionist. Does anyone know if we can staple documents to supporting documents (ex: G-325A with supplemental page AND a small baggie holding the passport photo--staple or paper clip?)

I don't think staples are a good idea. Try to use paper clips to hold the forms together..eg. All the sheets of form I-485. In my case, what I did was to use paper clips to hold individual forms together and supporting documents too. I then used a big binder clip to hold the forms and the supporting documents together. Staples are not a good idea

we used staples and a small plastic pouch/bag to hold the pics and stapled it to our g-325a we got no problem with it.....

Paper clips for the forms with supplemental sheets.

Big binder clips for the thick communication copies separated by smaller clips into categories with colored sheets in between.

They won't like pulling staples out to rearrange it their way.

You can use a hole puncher to punch the top of communication papers if you want to save them time.

Photos either printed on regular sheets or regular photos in zip lock bags, passport photos clipped to form G-325A.

Keep it very simple.

I used ACCO fasteners and divided the sections with blank paper tabbed at the bottom. Cover letter listing contents on top. They'll pull everything apart and rearrange your paperwork the way they want it, which means having to remove staples, so avoid using staples if you can. You need to make it easy to identify each part of your packet - organization is key. Good luck!

As far as the passport photos ---I stapled a baggie part way down a full size piece of paper and put the page behind each G-325a like it was another piece of the application. I think I wrote "passport photos of petitioner Mary Smith" in the blank area below the baggie.

Agreed! It's only the end result that matters - I've never heard of a petition being denied because they used a staple instead of a paperclip! It's only human nature though to try to get all the odds in our favor. With the I-129F filing, it's really only the hard evidence presented that determines the outcome.

Nobody said that you can get denied because a stapled petition ! It's about timely and efficient adjudication. If an officer has to remove

a gazillion staples and sort through folders and binders it will take longer plus pisses them off. They go through a lot of petitions a day.

USCIS would not have guidelines on how to assemble the petition if it mattered not and they are there for a reason.

Point being here is not the outcome but how can we make it easiest for the officer who gets our petition !

Why staple it all when they have to waste time to rip them out again. Times 20 or 30 petitions a day or whatever I would

like to see you going through that stack on your desk ripping out hundreds of staples.

Guidelines direct from USCIS :

• In preparing your packet, please take note of the following:
  • Do not use binders or folders that cannot be easily disassembled.
  • Use ACCO fasteners to hold together thick or bulky applications or petitions. Two-hole punching the top of the material for easy placement in the file is appreciated.
  • The use of tabs assist in locating items listed as attachments. The tabs should be placed on the bottom and not the side for ease in filing.
  • Avoid using heavy-duty staples; instead use ACCO fasteners or heavy clips.
  • Avoid submitting originals unless specifically required. Avoid submitting oversized documentation when possible.

Thank you all--especially several of you who posted the assembly link. Somehow I didn't see that....there is so much to sift through in this process (even in just the I129F) that I'm beginning to forget my own home address on these forms.....
