You fall in love over and over again.. without the phyical part getting in the way..

hi

i agree with all that was said above...our relationship is very strong..we have not had one argument in our 4 year relationship some say that isnt normal...but we discuss instead of getting mad at each other and i think the internet has helped us in that way..i got to know my husband for a year before i came to visit him the first time...i walked into his apartment an it felt like i was coming home instead of visiting...love conquers alot of things if you are both willing to be there for each other throughout this process we all go through..

Futuremrs you said it perfectly thank you

kath

ps totally agree chris an veronica....my mother use to ask what do you talk about for hours ...i said anything an everything...work .. friends...family...and we still do even though were not on the net together....i know him like i know myself....

Joel and I have never had an argument...not in the three years we've known each other and not since we've been married. Yeah, I've heard the "oh that's just not right" statement, or the "there is no way" statement. It's true though. We've learned that communication is THE key to our relationship working. We spent three years (almost) talking online and using the webcam...we HAD to talk, it was all we had. You really get to know a person that way. When we met face to face that first time, it wasn't a stranger I was seeing...it was the other half of me, I felt I knew him inside and out...and the best was yet to come!

And yes, it does seem that this K1 process is to weed out those that aren't seriously committed to it. There are some that want it and *I WANT IT NOW!* There is no way I could have rushed to start this process without getting to know Joel as deeply as I've gotten to know him, and we're still learning about each other now that we're married and living together all the time. Still, we handle everything the way we always have....we talk.

Quite the novel thing this day and age....talking. More couples should try it. :)

My man is in the military, and since the first few weeks we became bf/gf he gets deployed pretty often. Sometimes just for 2-3 weeks, some other times for 1.5 months... and toughest one was when he got deployed for 6 months to middle east. I must say yes, the distance, the time of not being close to each other somehow made us realize how important we are for each other, and also made the love stronger. Whenever we re-united after a while, we felt like the feelings were never so intense before..

I have not seen him for almost 9 months now. I can NOT imagine how emotional it'd be when I see him again the next time... Looking forward to it!!

Thank you for all the input. This is the first time i have been away from someone i want to be with and its been hard. A few years ago i live with my girlfriend and she wanted to get married but there was something there that did not feel right. What that was i did not learn intill just now. I was with my girlfriend living with me and she went away to see her parents. The first thing i wanted to do was to go out and hook up with women and see who i could meet. My girlfriend was only gone for a week and i could not last that long. She was not the right one. Now i have my love in Colombia living far away and i don't even look at women in america, We have been apart for months and my friends tell me they have a good looking women for me to meet and i tell them no thanks. I suprise myself. Now i know what true love is. You will wate for how ever long it takes. Its a great feeling to only want one women even if she is far away. Kyle

One thing is for sure, I have really gotten to know this man in this time. We talk almost every day for an hour or so. I read VJ and go through every scenario that I can in order to really keep growing in knowledge of him. I have even used questions from online relationship quizzes!

I not only love him so much, but I feel a stronger bond with him, like a comeradery ...he's a really good friend to me. I think that the distance has helped me on a personal level to develop patience, something I was seriously lacking before I met him.

I have also learned about me in the process. What I can and cannot endure...as you all must know...it gets hard sometimes being without a loved one. I feel stronger having waited so long...(we met in Summer 05).

And finally for me, the sexual tension is hard too. Sometimes I feel grateful that we don't have the distraction of sex because we are "really getting to know each other on a higher level". But then I go to bed at night and think..."Who am I kidding...I need sex!!!"

***Sorry if that was too personal, its been awhile you know) ;)

Well, from this side of the visa journey, I'd have to say.....probably not.

I'm not sure that all the separation makes you stronger as a couple. Once you are finally together real life will set in. For some people, as time passes they will forget what it was like to be separated and everything they struggled for.

I think what makes you stronger is very simply this - whatever it was that attracted you to each other in the first place.

That mysterious 'thing' was only what made the waiting and separation 'worth it'. It isn't the immigration process that gives your relationship strenth - it's the uniqueness of your coupleness that gives you the strength to get through the process.

well, *I* personally think, if you made it through this process, it will make it harder to give up your relationship in the future, you will think twice, before you break up, because there is a reason for all the time waiting and this is LOVE!!!! So you might remind yourself on what you went through and that you should give it another try :)

Me for myself, i have to say, i ALWAYS was against long distance relationships, i wanted to have my man around me as much as possible! But with my baby, it is totally different. We met in March and started off as friends, complaining all the time about our bad relationships and what not and there was always the question, we asked each other: will we find someone who appreciates us as we are? the REAL love? Man, it took us 7 MONTHS to realize that we already found THIS in each other. But because of the communication we had before, we already knew, what the other person expects and wants.

When i went to visit him a couple of weeks ago, i had the best time of my life....i saw him at the airport and already felt, like i knew him all my life!!!

We spent like 8 hours every day on the net, to talk to each other......and even after that, i call him on his ride home from work (hearing the lovely voice, is still a waaaaaaaaay better ;) )

John and me can't wait for this process to end, so we can start on having our family and have kids and just be happy until the end of time. We already know, that a life without each other, wouldn't be a worth one, nomore!

I love him and i miss him  , but in 3 days he will be with me for 2 weeks...yayyyyyy

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a smooth journey and may your love grows day by day, as mine and John's does (L)

We spent the first year of our relationship apart (fortunatelly we were able to visit every 2 - 4 months) and the one thing it really taught us was to communicate. And I'm not talking about how to write an email :)

It's not like we discuss everything to death but we both know that IF there's something worth discussing, we'll do it and find the best way out of every situation...

Even though this may sound simple- I think it is one of the most important factors in a relationship.

I have lots of friends who spend their life guessing what the other might or might not think or feel without ever being able to talk about it. I couldn't do it.

short history:

2001 - met in Germany

April 2003 - fell in love

Aug 2004 - go to the US for internship

Feb 2005 - both return to Germany

Aug 2006 - getting married

DCF timeline:

09/01/2006 - filed the petition in Frankfurt

09/06/2006 - medical in Frankfurt

09/26/2006 - faxed checklist

10/05/2006 - received interview invite

11/01/2006 - INTERVIEW in Frankfurt - approved!

11/04/2006 - VISA IN HAND!!

12/21/2006 - POE San Francisco and ON TO SEA!

I agree so much with every word I see here It could be myself written it.

I have never had stronger feelings for a man like I have now.

Our relationship keep burning on calls and chat on yahoo.

Almost 3 years are gone since we met real life the first time. Last time is a year ago, and getting better and better for everyday.

We know eachother better than any could do because of words we share and faithful feelings.

My fiance is 12000 km away from me and I can sit infront of my computer for hours to just make sure that he will be online for a few minutes.

After chat or talk for those few minutes my day is safed and I am happy.

Oh for god sakes I love him so.

My first real love ever

I will tell everybody in the world Mike that I feel this way for you without any doubt

I agree with previous posters and would add:

This relationship (we have been married since May) Has really helped both of us in our spiritual walk.

Its so easy to take God for granted. I know I forget to pray and talk to Him all the time. In this relation ship, we are always asking for Gods will and for Him to be in control and help with some of these crazy things that happen in the process.

And this helps us as we wait, being so far apart. I'm not as lonely, don't get jealous and when I get anxious when she does something or wants something that goes "against the grain" for me, I put it in Gods hands and I am much more patient, logical, caring and forgiving.

Its GREAT!

While I am sure the long distance and all the paper work has drawm Lorna and I closer together, I have to give the Glory to my Father in heaven.

Without Him, I don't see how we could have done all of this....

God bless you all and Merry Christmas!!

Mike & Lorna

I could not have said it better. Be blessed.

My fiancee and I talk almost every day through a webcam. It's very strange since we've spent the last 5 years in eachother's company while I was living in Thailand. We've already established a strong foundation during those years, so it's easier (not to say pleasant) being apart in some ways. If you love someone then patience and commitment need to be a part of the relationship. If there isn't that then things won't work, whether short- or long-distance.

yes it is. communication plays a major role in LDR and if both persons exert more effort to make the relationship last long, it will be worthy of the wait. Waiting for 6 to 1 year proves that you are really much in love with each other and sacrificing each day to be apart and dealing with visa journey, but after all of this experienced, life become more and more meaningful for both of you. Just two cents.
