Browsing about today, I noticed a couple of posts that had hyperlinks in the text. Normally, I wouldn't think anything of it, someone just linking to other content, but in the post's context, that there should be a link seemed... odd.

Here's one I noticed: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/435107-need-help/?p=6284234

And another: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/433031-the-rantrix-revolutions/?p=6299461

There are others I noticed, but I can't recall exactly where. Anyway, clearly the links were almost certainly NOT intended by the poster, and mousing over the links I see text that says, "Shopping Link Added by SkimWords." What is going on here? I don't know if it's an issue with my browser (I use Chrome on a Chromebook) or a VJ thing or what. Any ideas?

When I had some adware that is exactly what it did to all my posts. The posters probably got some adware.

I noticed that briefly today also. I think it was one of my posts even, but didn't actually click it to see what was going on because I was in a hurry to do something else. I post from an iPad, full site version on Safari.

Edit: I see iPad showed up as a hyperlink when I posted. Well it could be new game. what will make a link? Hmm...let me try Hawaii and camera and iPhone and Downton Abby and vacation and Nike shoes.

Edit again: Bummer. Only 1/6.

ya, it is showing up across multiple computers, multiple browsers, that i touch today.

i think something got installed on the website.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

If you are finding posts with hyperlinks, would you report them? That is also one of the favourite ways spammers use the site - in addition to posting all sorts of illegal offers or pornography. We can check and see if they are spammers or inadvertent links.

This was the (only) one that I'd noticed. This morning on IE, hovering the cursor over the link yielded the proper web address for the company. Tonight on Safari, hovering the cursor over the link yields a balloon that says "shopping link added by SkimWords."

I've been through many posts in at least a dozen forums tonight, and I haven't seen any others.

K., I'll report any suspicious links immediately. This one is obviously legitimate and from SkimWords.
