ok in section 8 UNDERTAKINGS

I am not a citizen of the united states but I will be eventually.

for people applying for a British passport that are now US. citizens and for everyone becoming a citizen I'm now asking this question.

Why on the application for a British passport does it state I may lose my citizenship of another country if I voluntarily apply for a passport.

8. I, or the person named in Section 1 of this application (if

different), understand that by voluntarily applying for a British

passport, I may lose my citizenship of another country.

does anyone know if this happens ?

Ok this is my problem now.

I have started to fill out the application to renew my passport. the application isn't much of a problem.

My problem is the evidence that the application requires me to accompany it.

The list below shows all the required documents and an accompanied list of reasons I don't have the information.

does any one have any ideas in what I can do?

or any alternatives ?

I'm really stuck!

the passport hotline is extortionate and they are useless. I really need someone's help!

If you were born after 1 January 1983 in the

OR

6) your father only was a British Citizen at the time of your birth his original long birth certificate OR

You'll likely have better luck finding someone who can assist with your exact situation by visiting the British Expats site. There's a very long thread for those renewing their UK passports from the US: http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=786998

Good luck!

**** Moving from General immigration to UK forum for better answers ***

Some countries do not allow dual citizenship. If you were a citizen of such a country and applied for a UK passport (and thus citizenship), your other citizenship may be revoked. Nothing to worry about in the USA.

It sounds like this may be an OR question- ie if you have your old passport you can send in, you'd be gfine. But check with the local UK embassy or consulate.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

You are reading requirements for first time passport applicants. To renew when you hold a British passport, the documentation you send to Washington DC is:

DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED WITH A PASSPORT RENEWAL

 Passport Fee and

 Two Identity and Passport Service standard

photographs and

 C1 form and

 Original current passport (please check country

page for any exceptions)

That instruction page covers people who have claim to British citizenship through a parent, living in a territory, first time passports, name changes, gender changes, etc. You are in the wrong section for a renewal.

You mail your passport off (with the form, fee, and photos) and it takes about 4 weeks to get it back.

And your other question doesn't apply to you and US citizenship. You can hold two passports for UK and US. They are warning people that there are other countries in the world that would not allow a person to add a British passport without giving up the passport of their birth country. The US and UK are ok with it.

Just to add one more thing: the US uses a different size for passport photos to most of the rest of the world, including the UK. The US uses 2" x 2", and the UK uses 45mm x 35mm. Some reports say that the UK embassy in Washington will accept US size and trim them, some that they reject them and demand UK size. You can get UK size in the US, from some pharmacies, or by doing it yourself, but it can be an effort. I used a free website that helped to convert my own picture to the right size on 4" x 6" photo paper. I imagine that thread on the British Expats forum has more info.
