Hi All,

I have filed my N-400 Application on September 2012 and did interview on March 5, 2013 at Chicago, IL. Finally on April 05, I have been placed inline for oath ceremony. During the interview I was told that USCIS will perform oath ceremony at my city's court house only and will not perform oath ceremony for me in Chicago, IL :(

The next oath ceremony in my City's CourtHouse is on May 17. I called the Court office today and Confirmed with them about the Oath Ceremony. If I miss this Oath date then next ceremony in town will be July 12. So my Question is : How may days before the oath ceremony does USCIS send the oath ceremony letter?

I will greatly appreciate if anyone can share their experience, thoughts or comments regarding my case.

Thank you

You should get at least 2 weeks prior notice, if not more. I know that when I had my interview, the next citizenship ceremony was 2 weeks later. They told me that they didn't have time to mail out an invitation so asked me to wait and they prepared the documents I would need and gave me everything then. You still have time to receive an invitation to the May 17th ceremony.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

We received our letter only one week before the ceremony. It could be because the interview was only 13 days before the next oath ceremony.

St. Paul under the old office manager had the longest wait of any of the 80 field offices for oath ceremonies. New one changed all that with same day oaths provided you were lucky to get your interview in the morning. Ironically we are closer to the Milwaukee office, but assigned to the St. Paul office. Even met people that were less than an hour away from Milwaukee that were assigned to St. Paul.

Have friends in the Chicago office, no place to park, we still have to go their to renew my wife's foreign passport, like two months ago, only way we can do that is to take a train or a two day affair. No place to park, but still don't dare miss that train. Or would have to pay a fortune to stay overnight. One friend only lived 40 miles from St. Louis but was assigned to the Chicago office, and no way to change that.

Just saying, its all up to your office manager. Oath ceremony is nothing more than a lip sync service, they don't even have you sign your certificate in front of an officer. You already read the oath at your interview and signed it. Would be happy to give the a prepaid envelop and send out that certificate. Also watched some patriotic videos on an old 27" TV set.

Just make darn sure your certificate has no errors on it. If you walk out the door with that, will cost you another 400 bucks and at least a six month wait to get it corrected.

Thank you for your response guys, I really appreciate your feedback. I am checking my mailbox every day after I go home from work and crossing my finger every time I open the mail box. I dont know when this long awaited letter will come.

Definitely wanna take oath on this May 17 Ceremony. I dont wanna push it until July, that will be 10 months of N-400 Journey and I guess it will be one of the longest one in history. Desperately waiting to get that certificate so that I can upgrade my wife's I-30 Petition from F2A to IR1.

Thank you

hi,

I received the Oath Letter 6 days before the ceremony. But before that, I received online notification that the oath was scheduled (i.e. not in queue)- 11 days before the actual ceremony.

It depends on no. of new citizens at oath ceremony in your DO office. In Los Angeles, normally there will be a total of 6000 new citizens attending the ceremony with 3000 new citizens each for the morning and afternoon oath ceremony.

The IO might try to slot you in for the coming oath ceremony if your case is clean after the interview. I was lucky to be able to attend the oath 2 weeks after the interview.

All the best!
