Ok!! So, a K1 was applied for, submitted last October 1st. Assuming everything goes forward cleanly, and we get contacted for my fiancé to go for her interview, should I plan to accompany her, or is that something she has to do by herself? She's in the Philippines, and I know they make accommodation for those without a real good grasp of English, (her English is not that great.)

Thank you in advance for any responses.

Depends on the consulate. I always say attend if you can. They will NOT speak to you, it is HER interview but you can be there for moral support for her. I went, and do not regret it. Not all consulates allow you to attend. Kiev does. Check with others to see about the Manilla consulate. Of course you can wait outside if they do not allow you in to the interview area.

I went to my husband's interview and the CO spoke to and questioned me more than my husband.

The U.S. Embassy Manila will allow to attend your fiancée's interview. You should do so because it can help her chances for a visa approval.

In your case, you should attend her interview because your fiancée's English is weak and you don't want it to become a reason for the consular officer to question the bona fides of your relationship.

That's great. I'll plan for that then.

Are the visas issued at the end of the interview, or will we have to wait for approval? If I can this done in 1 trip, and head back here, all the better!!

The visa is sent to the address you designate at the interview, including any 2GO office. It usually takes anywhere from three days to three weeks after the interview for the visa to be delivered.

WE had the same experience. The CO spoke to me and questioned me more than my husband.

It is always a good idea to attend the interview unless it will be so stressful that you look terrible as a couple together. Keep in mind, when you are together, it is important how you interact together. Do you work together, do you support (emotionally) each other, do you appear to be in a good relationship, etc. I do not see language as that important, she can learn English but if you can not communicate emotionally (eye contact, touch, etc), that that will be seen by others and IMHO, it could cause problems.

If her English is not good they will use an interpreter. Some petitioners attend with from what I understand most do not. Read all of the guides here along with past and current posts. Then make up your mind. If you stay back and not attend you will have two bad nights sleep. One during her medical and the other interview. My fiancee just passed and will be here next week. Had I been able to take time away from work I would have attended just for peace of Mind and support.

Good luck

Thank you for all of your responses. Better to be informed than not, right? Another question: Will the CO give us the thumbs up at the end of the interview? I know that we have to wait for the actual visa to arrive in the mail, (as mentioned above.) I'd hate to have to wait for an actual decision.

I was in AP for almost 4 months, and feb 19 they email him, and we have to bring more bonafide relation, and they put in the paper that they suggest that I be present with him, the first time i can't, but i will fly tomorrow to attend the interview, i don't want to take a chance that they denied.

They may or may not tell you whether you we're approved. However, if they don't, just ask them.

Also, if they keep her passport, it's a safe bet that she was approved.

fveoh69,

yes, you can attend the consulate interview in Rio. I'll be flying from LA to Rio to do just that...as soon as our NOA2 is approved and the interview is set up. We just joined the "200 club" today! Waiting since early August....yeah!
