Hello every one, happy Holidays, I entered US last OCT 28th on CR1 Visa and now I'm enjoying my living here in PA with my wife, i was hoping to get my Green card in few

weeks but more than 30 days passed ! exactly 38 days so far and No Green Card or welcome note in mail yet ??

I wonder is this normal period of time to wait for Green card in mail for CR1, I just want to start working and driving...etc..

I went last Friday 30th OCT to the SS office to apply for SSC and I'm waiting to get it in mail in 2 weeks .

Please advice me what i can do about my Green card ?

Thank you

Farid .

It's not unusual for a green card to take a month or more to arrive in the mail after POE. The only thing you can do at this juncture is contact USCIS and ask them what's going on.

wait! i am confused crying.gif didn't you naturalize?

He's not eligible for naturalization at this time.

You have an I-551 stamp in your passport. this is works as your GC. you can get a drivers license once you get your SSN and pass the other requirements (check your state rules).

You can start looking for work now with the stamp, and start working once you get your SSN (your employer will ask for the number).

I would call the 1-800 number about your GC and ask them whether it has been mailed out. Others may have other advice on that, but you aren't restricted from working or driving. You just need to go and apply for a license and a job and show them the stamp.

38 days too early to ask for green card , you should wait 2 more months maximum, you'll receive your green card for sure

im answering you from my friends experiences thez are moroccan too ,they received the green card after 2 or 3 months . after when you enter usa with ( CR1) you should wait , it's impossible to receive your green card few days after your entry ,i d'ont advise you to call USCIS, because you'll have your green card soon

relax and enjoy your time ,d'ont worry , you can work and drive with your passport with stamp ,

CBP is no longer placing special stamps in passports of CR-1 visa holders. What they do now is place a standard admission stamp in the page of the passport next to the visa itself and write applicable information in the fields of said admission stamp. A combination of the visa and the standard admission stamp is what acts as a temporary green card. At the bottom of the visa, there is a notation that says "Upon Endorsement Serves as Temporary I-551 Valid For 1 Year." The referenced 'endorsement' is the standard admission stamp.

Most of not all state licensing departments are behind on the times with this. When we tried to get my wife a State-ID card, we hadn't yet received her actual green card so we presented her temporary green card. After I explained how things work to the licensing department worker, his response was a flippant "we don't care about that." Obviously we left with nothing and my wife learned first hand as to why licensing departments are one of the most loathed agencies in the US.

USCIS won't be of any use regarding this question. An international driver's license by itself does not grant driving privileges, all it does is translate the information from the license from your own country. You can temporarily use your license from your country (along with the international) to drive for now as long as the license is still valid. However, as previously posted, you need to check with the licensing authority for the state you are living in and find out how soon you need to obtain a license for that state after moving to there.
