When the grocery store clerk's back was turned my brother grabbed some cash. Not a lot, just enough to get by for a while. The cops came by looking for him so we're wondering if there is a way to get around this without him returning the money the store.

Assuming your brother isn't a USC , returning the money is the least of his worries. Depending on the amount of the money he has committed a felony and his days in the US are probably numbered. The best thing for him to do is approach the owner and return the money. Being a robber is not good for immigration purposes.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

If your brother is not a citizen, he could very likely be deported for this. Depends on the amount.

Returning the money to the store should be done either way.

Around what? Why can't he return the money? At least in the USA, prosecution tends to go easier on people who have seen the error of their ways and tried to make ammends/ pay back money. Plus if the police came looking for him, they aleady know/ think he stole the money so it's not as if he could get away with it.

Are you talking about your brother stealing money in the Philippines and now he wants to apply for a US tourist visa (as you posted this as a reply to an unrelated thread in the Tourist Visa forum)? Is he in the USA (if so, on what sort of visa/ green card) and you are worried the shop owner will press charges and get him deported?

The split comment was meant to draw a parallel between the situation in the other thread and this "story." It's not real.
