Hello Everyone,

All of you who are trying to get a K-1 visa or those of you who obtained one,

can you please tell us where you are going or went for your honeymoon?

(Any good places/tips?)

We are planning to go somewhere in the U.S., preferably Hawaii but someone told

us that there might be problems going to Hawaii on the K-1 visa. Is this true?

We will get married in the east coast. Please let us know.

Thank you!

That is not true. So long as you take a non-stop flight from/to the mainland she should be fine. It is not uncommon for CBP to carry out spot checks during boarding of some flights to the mainland, to prevent a wanted individual or someone who gained entry to HI illegally from getting to the mainland. So long as your fiancee has a valid I-94 she can travel anywhere in the US.

We're thinking Maui. And take a nonstop flight! It's your honeymoon! No need to stress over connections. Start saving those miles now lol ;)

Even though we're pretty set on that (literally just waiting to be further in this process to book anything), we've considered Disney World/ FL. Something my fiance brought up and I wouldn't want to chance is can we go to US territories? Like Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands? We wanted to do an Alaska cruise but the cruise line we like ports in Vancouver x.x

Thank you!

The issue I have seen others raise is that if you leave the U.S. mainland, even to go to another U.S. territory/state such as Hawaii or the U.S. Virgin Islands, you would run into major problems if your flight gets diverted for any reason or needs to land somewhere other than the U.S. destination airport. If a K-1 fiance/ee sets foot anywhere other than the U.S. before the green card/AP is received, he/she would have to return to the home country and start over with the IR-1 visa. Obviously this is an extremely unlikely scenario, but with the amount of stress, difficulty, and expense that most of us go through to get the beneficiaries to the U.S. in the first place, I personally wouldn't take any chances at all.

We'll be staying in the continental U.S. for our honeymoon. Probably somewhere pretty local, like a couple of hours away to somewhere in New England. After the stress and hubbub of the wedding, an epic voyage just doesn't sound like it would be my preferred activity for unwinding. Plus with all the expenses of the wedding and him not being able to work for some time thereafter, a big fancy trip will make a lot more sense a year or two down the road. Also, it will be January!
