I-130 at National benefits center??

Hello everyone,

I have a few questions/concerns...

My husband and I just got married 9/28/2012 and submitted his I-130 the next day. I received a text and email confirming the case had been accepted and we should be getting our NOA 1 in the mail soon. What confused me is this...

"Your case has been accepted and routed to the USCIS National Benefits Center for processing"

What is the NBC?

Will this slow the process?

Does this mean something is wrong?

I wanted to add the processing center to my timeline to get an idea of approval but NBC is not listed. So I am confused as to why our I-130 was sent there. Does this happen to everyone? I am grateful to any help. Thanks :)

My husband called USCIS last night and they said they couldn't understand why ours was sent to NBC if we didn't file an i-485 at the same time.

Going off the September 2012 filers on here though, it seems to be that they're going to NBC and then getting sent to a local office for processing now. Do you have an 'MSC' code?

Yes we have a MSC code.... However the site keeps saying "Your case can not be found at this time in My Case Status. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283."

Did anyone read the link?

Some I-130s are being transferred to the the "National Benefits Center" which used to be the "Missouri Service Center." MSC= NBC. The processing times will be 5-6 months, like normal. The aim here is to reduce processing times. The system is not set up to show processing times for I-130s at NBC, but on the other hand, that is mostly useless information and they are doing this to help you.

It can take a while for cases to show up on the website, and sometimes they never show up there. it doesn't matter, because the online process checker is also mostly useless and not updated properly. You will get letters in the mail. There is nothing to show besides approval, either, and you will know when you are approved by a letter or a text if you sign up for them.

The people you talk to on the phone are not USCIS employees, they are subcontracted workers who read from a screen. They give out so much bad info they are called the "misinformation line." The link above shows why these cases are being sent to NBC.

There are many MANY posts regarding the NBC and cases with MSC numbers. Please take a look around.

My status on the site NEVER changed until the NOA2 was issued. It said it could not be found for the entire time until it finally changed to tell me that a notice had been sent by mail which was our NOA2.

My case was NOT sent to a local office and was at the MSC the entire time. It only took 40 days to receive our NOA2.

My husband is the USC. He is in the US and I am in Canada.
