Chinook passed her naturalization interview yesterday morning at the Seattle District Office, and she was sworn in there yesterday afternoon.

:star:Congratulations Citizen Chinook !!! :star:

The interview...

Scheduled for: 9:55 a.m.

Actually started at: 10:38 a.m.

Ended at: 9:47 a.m.

Documents asked for: passport, green card, and driver license.

History/civics questioned asked: choose any six.

Tip: know your N-400 inside and out.

The oath ceremony...

Scheduled for: 1:05 p.m.

Actually started at: about 1:45 p.m.

Ended at: about 3:00 p.m.

Random things...

> Chinook registered to vote at the end of the oath ceremony.

> Chinook received a passport application from the USCIS before the oath ceremony.

> They gave all the new citizens a mini U.S. flag. That was a nice touch.

> The USCIS allowed for plenty of time after the oath ceremony for everyone to take photos on the stage, using the DHS logo and the U.S. flag as backdrops. That was another nice touch.

> The USCIS recommended that all the new citizens visit the Social Security Administration office to change their status from legal permanent resident to citizen. When the USCIS was asked after the oath ceremony if there was any waiting period before notifying the SSA, they said it could be done immediately, and to simply take along the naturalization certificate. However, when we got home and read all of the literature they gave Chinook, the USCIS literature said to wait ten days before notifying the SSA. Hmmm...

Thanks guys. :star:

Chinook and I celebrated last night by having dinner at one of our favorite seafood restaurants. Chinook and I split an appetizer of steamed clams and mussels. Then Chinook had the pan-fried oysters and I had the silver salmon. For dessert, we split a wild mountain blackberry cobbler ala mode...and got another one to go! :D

It feels great to have come to the end of the process.

Chinook passed her naturalization interview yesterday morning at the Seattle District Office, and she was sworn in there yesterday afternoon.

Hmmm...

Congrats!

You can apply right away, but it will still take a while for the system to show she is an USC. We both applied for new cards the same day. Two weeks for me, about six weeks for her. If you updated the SSA when she became a LPR, the new card will look the same.

BTW: Driver License and stuff, they want to see the original Naturalization Certificate and make their copies on their crappy copiers, so other than keeping a back-up copy or two in safe places, no need to make your own copies.
