Granted, he prolly did, but a shot to the kneecap of a kicking assailant accomplishes the same goal. IMHO the cop was not facing imminent death in a public arena. He was facing a horrible beat down which required him to act responsibly, especially as a public servant. Double tapping center mass is not a responsible action in that type situation. HOWEVER it is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Hold still! Turn around a little! OK, now help me sit up straight so I can aim and hit your kneecap! :bonk:

Accidents happen and emotions can get the better of people.... is it normal for a 4 year old to be out running loose, was Dad supposed to be watching her?

she was with her 18 year old cousin

But if he wasn't cop, would your reaction be the same? If he wasn't a cop, he would be locked up during a long investigation. Not only should the father have remained sane while his daughter had been hurt, the shooter should have also.

The same use of deadly force by a civilian would likely result in arraignment and conviction, while the cop will likely walk away. I'm a security expert dealing with these situations on a daily basis. A trained marksman knows how to disable an assailant without making them assume room temperature.

Sure you are.

Your replies in this thread are comical.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

The question is why was 4 yr old out on the street?

Even if the kid was hit does not mean dad come and punch the driver, driver had not taken off he was rendering help.

So whoever the guy was cop or no cop he had full right of self defense, which is what the guy did.

she was with her 18 year old cousin

Than should the officer on the motorcycle be responsible for the accident or the 18 yr old who was not paying attention?

The point is he was one of those professionals who probably really knew all about the use of weapons in this sort of situation. Not like the rest of us 'armchair experts'!

There are plenty of ways to "disable" someone without killing them. A cop, of all people, knows that.

yeah. me, i've never been a cop, but i have fired tens of thousands of rounds under a wide variety of conditions, and have carried a gun for over 20 years without shooting anybody i didn't intend to, much less myself.
