Encouragement Needed

I just hate the idea of having to live without my wife for the next number of months just because of paperwork. We've only been married for 3 years and already have to go through this #######. It really sucks that Canada and the US just couldn't have a single travel initiative with the same criteria which would allow a person to become a permanent of Canada or the US,a nd if you were already a part of Canada, you could move to and fro as you like between Canada and the US. I kind of wish we were owned by the US. lol.

Just to let you know, I'm not saying this out of political ideal; merely out of the emotional want to be with my wife. I couldn't care less about the political corollaries of what I'm saying. I like America way better than Canada anyways. Way more amenities and convenience. Plus we're moving to the east coast, and I absolutely love the ocean. I miss my family, too. My dad lives in Southern Ontario and it's way cheaper and quicker for me to fly to Detroit than to fly from out west in Canada to Ontario.

I dunno. I just feel like life is going to suck without her.

Any encouragement would help.

Try not to look at the long term ... when we were apart, we would just say ... Day by Day ... or One Day Closer ... take the baby steps, then it doesnt seem so bad.

I understand and feel your pain, my husband is not from Canada, but we are still separated by thousands of miles. Every time I want to see him I have to get on a plane and travel an entire day, and spend thousands of dollars for plane fare. The only thing I know is that in the end we will be reunited, and all the money spent on traveling and time spent waiting will be well worth it. We love each other and it is meant to be....Good luck!!!

I feel your pain but the long wait will be over soon . . my husband left 2 days after our wedding and its almost a year now . . its painful and so stressful but that will be worth it and you get your approval and be in each others arms . . oh what a happy day will it be . . just stay strong and be prayerful . . God will make a way

The way I looked at it (tried to at least) is an opportunity. Get better about communicating feelings, actions, etc and being a complete person on your own so that once you are back together you will be at the next level instead of taking steps back.

Or take the opportunity to eat breakfast for dinner or whatever things you enjoy buy your spouse might not necessarily enjoy as much

And remember, it's totally worth it.

Thanks, everyone. I'm feeling better from all of your comments. It's nice to know I'm not alone entirely. It's hard to be strong for your wife when you've been taking care of her for 3 years (at least that's how I see it) and now you have to be away. I just worry about her.

I'll just have to leave it in God's hands and trust that He knows what's best for us.

The waiting and separation is really tough when you're in the middle of it, but after you're back together and a few years pass, it will be nothing but a distant memory. You'll probably look back and say it wasn't that bad! I do that all the time.

When I first found about about the visa process, I was surprised because I'm "just from Canada" People sometimes are surprised when I tell them I have a GC because I'm "just from Canada" Canada and the US are two separate countries, but so linked together it seems a little... I don't know, strange that we need to go through such a long and expensive process when you could just jump in your car and go shopping, or go out for dinner, or do whatever in the US any day. Its so accessible we take it for granted. But, I love Canada and the US for different reasons, I'm glad they are seperated. They would screw each other up...

I second Hugglebuggles comments - it's a small blip in the entire roadmap of your marriage together. A little cliché but like she said in a couple years its all a distant memory. It's been almost 5 yrs that I moved to the US and married my husband but I still remember the heartache I felt waiting during the VISA process. It makes me misty thinking about how much I missed my husband when he drove back to the US after each visit. Even though we spoke every single day for hours at a time it was tough.

I got my visa and moved 1 year ago and it does already feel like a distant memory. That year apart from my husband was definitely horrible but it did make us stronger. Good luck!

Ya, you're right. It's just a minor thing right now. Hopefully it goes quickly; but maybe we can pretend like we're dating again or something. I hate to think that we're only going to be visiting each other at Christmas time. It's only one year, though. It's never going to happen again I guess. Thanks for putting things into perspective.

I'm almost done the CR1 process (fingers crossed) in three weeks I'll get to stay with my husband for the first time instead of just visiting. All the waiting made the past ten months seem like an eternity but now I can't believe how fast things are moving. If all goes well with my interview it will have been about 10 months from noa1 to visa in hand, you might get lucky and be through even quicker. Study the guides, follow Saylin's instructions (she is a godsend to us all) spend as much time as you can together on Skype, and try to find the money to visit (I've found that taking a bus to the US and flying domestically is generally cheaper). We are lucky that we can visit during this process, people from some countries can't. This can only make your relationship stronger. Have faith in that. It will be worth it.
