What to wear for interview

Ok.... so I'm leaving for London on March 5th, interview is March 8th, 9:30 am.....and I have no idea what to wear. I'm in southeast Texas, so it's not very cold..... Tony (hubby) says it's really cold in London, and this Texas girl is not used to that nor do I have that kind of 'winter' wear. But my big question is, what do I wear for the interview?!? Can it be casual (nice jeans & a shirt), dressier? can I go in my normal clothes or should I dress up in something that i normally wouldn't wear?

Currently I look normal, but I'm fighting the temptation to dye some of my hair teal. When my husband met me I had purple hair :-) I work at a store called Hot Topic.... thats why I get to do silly stuff like dye my hair strange colors, and dress a little wierd

As it is, due to the fact that his boss isn't letting him off the night before the interview (he works nights), and he lives to far away (2 hours by bus), I'm going to have to go to work with him, and then head straight out from there to the embassy. So i get to hang out at Tesco all night, hehe.... but I get to watch him work :-)

Any advise would be appreciated.

cheers,

Christine

i'm not even close to having done this myself, so take my comment accordingly...

i would weigh it two ways:

what does all your documentation show you as? all your passport photos? your pics with your tony, etc? you may want to remain consistent with that...

on the other hand (you have diferent fingers)...

as much as i really don't want to tell you not to be yourself, i wouldn't give the interviewer any reason to be offended and mess with your visa. personally, i think it would be fun. :P but who knows what kind of person you'll end up with there and if this person really hates teal hair (or what if it's an old lady with teal hair? haha), she could make things not so fun. since you're there to appease that interviewer, i would guess that maybe it would be helpful to keep things rolling smoothly if you tried to dress up a little (but comfy) so they feel you're serious about the interview. i imagine that i'll prolly be wearing something nice for ours (khaki pants? collar? oh my!), though i can't remember the last time that i haven't worn jeans or jean shorts (especially to work!). ttyl,

mich

I would suggest being smart but casual I wore suit trousers and blouse but I had to go somewhere after so I had to be smart.

But hey this is london and anything goes just wear what you feel comfy in dont overdo the make up and remember SMILE loads.

And yep it is cold in London (very windy which is how you can tell a true londoner cos we all walk at a slant  )

Good luck

I have been seriously contemplating this myself. I don't want to look like I am trying too hard to look professional but i don't want to look like i'm not taking the interview seriously. The interview is actually for my husband but i'm accompanying him. I work in an office with business-casual type dress. So i'm figuring i will just wear something that i would normally wear to work. I got an outfit for my husband that is a dress shirt and tie with khaki slacks. I figure we'll do fine if we look like we care how we look but don't overdo it. I'm sure that they aren't going to base their decision on what you show up wearing but they could decide to give you a bad time if you give off the wrong impression. Teal hair sounds very fun........... but maybe you should go out and get it done AFTER the interview to celebrate! Good luck!

I want to thank everyone for the advice....

hehe...as for the photos of me & Tony, the very first photos of us I have purple hair....the in the wedding photos, reddish brown & black, and other photos I have a natural red...and currently hair is jet black :-)

I'm a gal of many colors (plus tats & piercings), but I think I'll tone down my attire & were something relatively normal.

But thanks again..... I'll post my experience when I get back to Tony's.

cheers,

Christine

For my interview I was wearing a white shirt.... Black trousers and a little jacket...

I thin it s important to be dress up in a good way..

I was really surprised when i arrived at the embassy as not so many people were dressed up....

But the first apparance is the one who last...

I just had my interview Feb 23. I wore casual (very fine) cords and a grey turtle neck sweater. The people there were dressed in everything from suits and dresses to jeans. Just look "nice" thats all the interview if you can call it that is fast and simple (mine was). Hope that helps.

Wear what makes YOU feel confident and comfortable. They see all kinds of clothes. "Smart casual" is more-or-less the norm, but unless you really stand out, your clothes won't make much of a difference to them. But if a particular outfit changes your attitude and makes you feel like you can project an extra air of confidence, then go with it.
